Whew! 18 hours straight of driving and I'm finally here! Now...what to do?!

So I'm from San Diego...have been living there for the last year, and love everything about Southern California. However, having grown up in San Diego, I feel like I know the place a little too well, and that there is this big bad world just ready to be seen. So I got myself an apartment in Portland, made the move this weekend, and now I'm here.

One thing I didn't know...there's no Gaybourhood in Portland! AHH! I'm used to living in Hillcrest in SD, and driving to WeHo for parties or hanging out...but this city apparently has no place to congregate?

I refuse to believe that! Where oh where can a poor, new-to-town gay boy go to meet some new friends, and dance the night away? What about nice "Gay-friendly" restaurants? I'm fairly active in the political scene and enjoy supporting restaurants and businesses that support us: which ones in your opinions are those? I'd love all the suggestions anyone from the Portland area, or who know the PDX area, can provide!

    (long-winded, I know...but thanks for reading through! icon_wink.gif

Sorry don't have anything to offer but thinking about a move to the Pacific NW myself (Portland, Seattle or Vancouver) for the same reasons. Just time to explore another part of the world. Would love to hear how your adjustment and acclimation goes...since I'm right behind you bud.

Silverado moved to 318 SW 3rd, fun bar.

What part of Portland did you get an apartment in?

The Pearl District and Brewery Blocks (off Burnside and 10th) have a pretty good restaurant, bar, and art scene, very gay friendly and trendy.

The Hawthorne area (15th - 39th) in SE Portland is a very old "granola" gay neighborhood.

NE Broadway, around 15th is fun.

Hobo's in old town is the gayest restaurant in town, nice place, great low key bar.

Basic Rights Oregon is a good place to start for political activism. They have an annual gala dinner, it's coming up in October, would be a great place to meet like minded people. Call Juan Martinez at BRO, he can fill you in.

Would be glad to answer any other questions.

Welcome to Portland! I love it here. The pacific northwest is a great place to live. There are quite a few guys from the Portland area on RJ too.

I can't help you much when it comes to the gay scene...what Bizz found and DuggerPDX told you is a great place to start.

Portland doesn't really have a "gayborhood" that I know of. I kind of like it that way. Portland is a liberal, accepting city where you can feel comfortable just about anywhere. Get out and enjoy it while the weather is still good!
