Anyone else disappointed that Dan did not win Design Star this season. I, and friends, thought he did a far better job than Antonio, especially in finals.

I don't know if Dan is gay or not, but you just have to wonder what this was all about.

I found the whole new format interesting. Instead of the older, more expensive judges they now use their local talent to judge. Second they didn't let the public decide who won. I think they wanted to save money and so changed the format of the show and chose Antonio because he would make a show differnt then the ones they currently have. Anybody wonder what happened to last years winner? I've never seen her new showicon_surprised.gif

I only caught the last few episodes and really liked Antonio. He has a unique way of presenting himself. He was not your typical pretty gay boy designer. I understand he is a carpenter/set designer so that was refreshing. I could also see that he had a unique and genuine rapport with his crew. I witness these relationships everyday as a construction manager. You can be the most talented designer in the world, but your ideas are not worth anything if you don't have the respect and control of your men who will go above and beyond. There were a few times when I bust out laughing as I watched Dan try to hi five his crew. It just seemed so unnatural. And what was up with those colored contacts? He also, in general, seemed like he was trying too hard. He was trying to be like David Bromstadt (sp?). With Antonio, things flowed more naturally, even though he was a bit unconventional. He was genuine.

I figured Antonio was going to be the winner when it got down to the last 5 designers. The goal of the show is to give someone a show on HGTV, and he is unique in that respect,

I've seen it a couple of times ....
I liked Dan too but I knew Antonio was going to win
He had an out of the box way of doing things and a unique peronality that will translate well on TV

As far as Dan being gay
I'm going to venture yeah .... unless proven otherwise
It looked to me like he was always wearing Manscara icon_cool.gif
and I just got a FOD vibe from him

But he never could compare to the best designer there is
    and that's David Bromstead icon_wink.gif
He is great ..... handsome as hell
    and extremely talented
I've even seen him a few times down here out and about in Miami
and he's just as cute in person

My mom and I both thought Dan should have won based on the last challenge (and no i don't live with my mother, we just happen to bond over hgtv).

Antonio won only because of his marketability. I'll agree that his personality stands apart from most other design show hosts/designers, but his design on that last house was horrid. Looking at what he does on his own home too is pretty tacky.

As far as Dan being gay. Definitely. Dan and John Gidding were scoping each other and all smiley when they were on camera together.

BTW, I just looked up John Gidding's bio. He went to Yale and Harvard and has done runway for Gucci and Armani. I need to bag that one.

I was really pissed to see Dan lose to Antonio, too. I could tell that they were going to pick him just because he's different. I actually don't like Antonio's personality, idk just rubs me the wrong way. I tensely watched the finale hoping against reason that Dan would win but sadly I was disappointed. I honestly can't imagine Antonio having any success as an actual "HGTV Star". But then again, that really isn't the point of the show. I think Dan's work was much better by far but clearly they were looking for someone who would rock the boat. BTW - I agree that Dan is probably gay.
