At long last, proof of the obvious: Men who exclusively top hate themselves and go cuckoo more often than bottoms and versatiles.

You can read a report on the study reaching this conclusion here:

Interesting read, though I don't think they stated much that many of us already knew. lol

But it was nice to see it published in a scientific magazine. icon_smile.gif

I find this interesting because my boyfriend and I are one of those rare couples where the assertive partner is not the sexual top. Anyone else in a similar situation?

I've always wondered why 'total tops' even bother to call themselves gay. They can stick it to anyone with impunity -- female or male, no difference. To me the only exclusively homosexual act is sucking dick; there's no faking a throbbing cock in the mouth. All other acts are inherently omnisexual.

Because being 'gay' isn't about sexual position or 'sticking it in'. It's about what and who turns you on.

I agree. The article was interesting.

    The article quotes this:

"Although self-labels were not associated with unprotected intercourse, tops, who engaged in a greater proportion of insertive anal sex than other groups, were also less likely to identify as gay. Non-gay-identified MSW [again, "Men Who Have Sex With Men"] may have less contact with HIV prevention messages and may be less likely to be reached by HIV-prevention programs than are gay-identified men. Tops may be less likely to be recruited in venues frequented by gay men, and their greater internalized homophobia may result in greater denial of ever engaging in sex with other men. Tops also may be more likely to transmit HIV to women because of their greater likelihood of being behaviorally bisexual."

That almost seems to be suggesting that tops are at more risk for HIV, which, of course, doesn't really make much sense.

Unless the authors were just trying to suggest reasons why tops are less likely to use condoms and thus more likely to spread HIV (including when they have sex with women).

But that brings up something I've wondered about, but that I don't recall ever having read anything about. (Though I admit that I haven't read great amounts about the transmission of HIV. I mean, obviously I know the basics and I've read about it some.)

Anyway, this is what I've wondered about: Since there is considerably less risk of getting infected with HIV from the activities associated with tops than there is from the activities associated with bottoms, then theoretically very few tops should be getting it in the first place. And therefore very few gay men should be getting it at all since most of the time it's the top who transmits it to the bottom.

Yet clearly tops do get infected, suggesting that perhaps a lot of tops are versatile rather than exclusively or almost exclusively tops.

I was being sarcastic. I need an icon for sarcasm and irony too.
