Sometimes, you wake up and just are not of the mind to tackle the day.
Sometimes, your worries seem to stack up so high that an ending is not in sight.
Sometimes, your predicaments, sorrows, losses, and misses are all that you feel you have.

Life is hard enough as it is ... I'm writing a thread to thank those who have been posting more cheerful threads lately and to extend my e-hand to those who feel as though they're losing grip. If you've lost something that makes you smile, something that you thought was all you had, or something that brought joy to your life ... this thread is my minuscule attempt to have you remember to smile.

This thread is not about bi-partisanship; not about masculinity or femininity; not about twinks or bears; not about black - white - and the in between ... It's just a friendly reminder to have courage, face whatever ails you as best as you can and do not forget to ask for the help of your friends.

As a member of the gay community, I'd like to see more of us - young and not so - share our little wisdoms and be mindful of what we say to each other ...

    1. There's Sunshine in a Smile
    by: Helen Steiner Rice

Life is a mixture of sunshine and rain,
Laughter and pleasure, teardrops and rain.

All days can't be bright but it's certainly true,
There was never a cloud the sun didn't shine through.

And you'll find when you smile your day will be brighter
And all your burdens will seem so much lighter.

For each time you smile you will find it's true
Somebody, somewhere, will smile back at you.

And nothing on earth can make life more worthwhile
Than the sunshine and warmth of a beautiful smile!

I who work in human services, where many people are close to the end of their time on this earth. I never go to work without my smile, and my cheer, and a song in my voice, they all go a long way. To see a little old lady sitting there looking like no-one gives a rats arse anymore, and I come along and break into song just for them; to see their face light up like a Christmas tree, is priceless, even if it only last for a moment. Or to make some-one about to die laugh.

Albeit my soul at time has been weeping over the death of my soul-mate just before christmas, I still never go to work without my smile and a song in my voice, as I know a smile can go along way.

Sometimes when it gets stressful and challenging, it's nice to travel back to a place you have loved and where you dearly want to return...

This song ("Me, Myself and I" by Beyonce) itself is about a relationship, but I like this part:

    "Because I realized I got
    Me, myself and I
That's all I got in the end
    That's what i found out
And it ain't no need to cry
I took a vow that from now on
I'm gonna be my own best friend"

At the end of the day, I really just have yourself to feel good about yourself, and those who can love themselves can love others as well. icon_smile.gif

This is a good topic and it's important to remember those less fortunate. I have some physical problems and I have to constantly remind myself that even though it seems tough at times, there are many people in the world who are less fortunate.
I am a new member and it's encouraging to see everyone supporting each other in the forums. This is a good place for a shy guy like me to reach out to other gay men. Thanks for the topic.
