Well it's most unfortunate to report that I will likely discontinue and erase my profile soon. In the line of work that I do (a public figure), it just is not appropriate to have such profiles online. It has been suggested by several close people in my line of work that I get rid of this while I'm still ahead. I have "met" lots of wonderful people on here and I hope to stay in touch with a few of them. While I won't be erasing my profile today, it will likely be done in the very near future....probably before the week is out. I want to give some time to the ones i want to stay in touch with a chance to read their emails and respond. For the rest of you, good luck and god speed.

Sucks that your work makes you restrict your life, unless of course you are a well known doctor or a politician, then yeah it's be slightly creapy to see you have a gay ambiguously sexual profile. Unless of course you just CROP OUT YOUR FACE. Then you're cool living two separate lives.

I can see your point, but cropping out my face defeats the purpose. I personally don't like when others have their face cropped out. I'm on the news here in town and have been recognized by several. Just not good for me or the station in general.

Cropping your face doesn't defeat any purpose unless you WANT people to know your face here. People crop their faces for many reasons, some perfectly legitimate, and others because they're super slutty whores or closeted fags. But either way I wouldn't judge someone because their face isn't showing. Then again I use this site 95% of the time for mindless arguing and gay jargon drivel, not hooking up. So I don't know what the average RJ uses this site for.

It is highly unfortunate that in today's modern day and age, you still have to be so careful with your personal life outside the workplace. Why should your natural sexual orientation along with you having a profile on a gay athletic mens website be an issue with anyone. But I understand that you have to protect your public reputation along with that of your employers. But it is still very sad to see you leave realjock.

    Hold the presses!

LOL! It's funny, but most are. It's almost a prerequisite to be a weatherman.

I didn't think it was, but I'm following the advice of others who are much more experienced in the field I'm in. The guys I work with are gay and they've got horror stories about people finding them on here and fabricating elaborate hoax stories to get you fired. It has happened to me. That's how I was outed. Somebody found my profile on here and called my work pretending to be the father of a 15 year old boy and said I was having explicit conversations on a gay chat site. The whole story was false. Obviously it was proven the story was indeed fake and my company let it die. I know the guy who did it too. Come to find out, he was pissed because I turned him down for a date. He asked me out and I said thanks but no thanks.

That sucks. But you're right. Your profile looks pretty plain and innocent. But people can/will find ways to make you look bad for whatever reason.

I think there's another guy on this site that is a TV personality too.. Older guy from Texas. I noticed his profile isn't up anymore.

    Anyways, good luck. icon_cool.gif

    gayblaketx,

I'm so sorry to see you leave. But you have to do what is in your best interest. We'd love to have you stay, but your future shouldn't be compromised.

Take care, and I wish you the best of luck in your career and your personal life.

It isn't the gay thing so much as it is the being a target thing because your face is so well-known locally.

Yes, very true. I work in media too, and this is the primary reason I do the face thing. There are a lot of kooks out there. I've had people call me up, threaten to kill me, proposition me, etc.

Not to mention desperate people who either want your job or they're so envious they would say or do almost ANYTHING to see you lose yours. Actually, they're way worse than the crank calls, because they can do real damage. It's amazing, how mean-spirited some people can be, particularly when you've done absolutely nothing to them.

    Best of luck, Blake.

Best of luck to you and just so you know, all of the on-air WX-men in Columbus, OH are gay and out! And none of them can hit a forecast to save their asses.....LOL! Hell...I do better than they do and I got my degree 20+ years ago and left the field!
A couple of them have even been the "KING" of Columbus PRIDE celebrations...so they are very out.....

Seriously, I hope you got your coming out story settled and that all is now good between you and your parents. I remember how upset you were and how shocked you were when your dad drove the several hours to see you ....

My heart was breaking for you every time you wrote some "continuing unraveling drama" of your former "straight" persona. I trust that "coming out" has all played out and everyone is finally coming to acceptance and understanding.

    Wish you the best.

What is it with gay weathermen? I know four across the country -- L.A., Seattle, Salt Lake city, and Phoenix...all hot!

Why can't you just have an anonymous profile? We won't tell anybody icon_wink.gif

I used to be a reporter, and I think your co-workers are WAY overthinking this thing. How many stations ask their reporters now to have a facebook account JUST to promote the station? Your profile on here is fairly bland, so I'm not seeing what the problem would be. Are you worried about people seeing this and finding out you're gay? Is that really a huge deal? I can say with much confidence that this website will not hurt you from getting a job. Putting your face on Manhunt or Adam4Adam? Yes, that would be an issue.

If you keep the silly shirtless pics off (which, admittedly, I have up ... hehe, but I no longer work on the tube), then I don't see the problem. I'm a member of the National Gay Lesbian Journalist Association, so anyone googling me (and my name is fairly rare) easily will know I'm a homo.

I don't think this will hurt you professionally in any way unless you put up stupid stuff that you and I know shouldn't be on the web. I guess your choice comes down to this: You can keep this profile up and not worry about what anyone thinks (because your profile is simple enough, and there's nothing really over sexy or dangerous about Real Jock), or you can be like Anderson Cooper and do everything to get people to stop talking about you being gay. I tried the latter, and while it works for a while, eventually you want some freedom.

    Anyhow, that's my two cents.

Well dude, your profile is safely locked away in Google Search Cache.

Should take a couple of weeks to disappear though.

    Good luck.

The sad part is that if you had to make this decision a year ago, you wouldn't have had the kind of support you got when you hit that rough patch with your family.

We don't agree on much, but I hope there comes a day when people who's job it is to communicate on a mass-scale can live their lives without fear, let alone gay ones in that situation.

    Exactly!

I would no sooner entrust my decision to be without an umbrella to a straight man than I would a decision about a window treatment design. Any straight weather man would be on here deceptively in an attempt to promote his career! What a crazy world.

So let me get this straight....So far everyone is wishing this person luck and happiness, and blah, blah....bloody blah?!? Why? He is taking a step backward. When any of Us take a step backward it hurts all of Us.
Was it easy for you or I to come out publicly? No, it wasn't. Yet everyone of Us that do come out in all aspects of life further the cause of Gays everywhere. By taking this step back, (which may seem small to some), it cheapens all of the hardship and backlash that those of Us had to face by being who We are, being proud of who We are, and continuing to be out in all aspects of Our lives. This is bigger then one individual!!!
I know that there are many on here whom despise me. And I them. Yet I would be the first person in line to defend them if they were discriminated against or physically/verbally attacked for being Gay.

Isn't this the same person whom poured his bloody heart out on a thread about coming out to his family not too long ago? So he does that, which he claimed was the hardest thing in the world for him to do, yet now he's taking down his profile on a gay site because it will hurt him professionally?
Everyone is okay with someone taking a step back into the closet for professional reasons?!? We need people to be out in the workplace! We need people to be out in their personal lives. WE need to be visible in every aspect of everyday ordinary life.
So I say good riddance. (I know, I know, many of you wish me gone from here too.) But I really can't say I wish him well......or Best of luck chap....or any of those things.
To the O.P.; You are doing yourself a grave injustice. And in turn, WE as a Gay community suffer for it.
I am sorry for you though. I'm sorry that you feel that being Gay is such a bloody impediment. I do hope that you find peace with who you are, and open up all parts of your life to all parts of you. Until you do that you are almost as bad as homophobe, no worse....a repuGlican!!
