Is this evidence of what we expected to happen?
With all the threats and with all the yelling and screaming how the Government is evil are we seeing the outcome now?

A 51 year old part time census worker was found hanged to death in rural Kentucky earlier this month
with the word FED scrawled across his chest
The FBI was called in because the authorities think he was killed because of his job
But the Census Bureau has suspended all door to door operations in the area

Anti government sentiment runs very high in that eastern KY, southsoutheastern OH, western WV area. Even with relatively reasonable people. That area has some of the poorest poor hilljack white trash you'll ever find. Especially after many lost their welfare during the mid 90s Clinton welfare reforms and converted to disability and SSI, which paid far less. Clay County, Pike County, etc in SE KY are especially scary. I knew some horse traders from there who used to buy hay from our farm. They were nuts.

Meanwhile, I went to high school with people who routinely did this sort of thing to their neighbor's cats, amongst other mischief. So the leap to this sort of behavior there doesn't surprise me.

I cannot imagine the amount of fear this puts in other census workers in rural areas.

Cable news this AM raised possibility of suicide, but that seems improbable. Govt has to crack down on hate groups and hate speech.

And remember, it wasn't too long ago that fear monger Michele Bachmann warned that census data was used for the internment camps in WWII.

All the ignorant radical anti Obama/anti Government alarmist people need is a statement here form Bachman, one from Limbaugh, several from Beck, add in some more alarmist retoric from Hannity, Malkin, and several others of their backward mindset on fox news "fair and balanced", then mount on these the congressmen, and senators who just stand by not calling out such retoric, but approve it by their silence and benefit from it politicly and there you have all the ignorant fearfilled radical righties need to feel free to take action "to save our America" from the socialists. That action can easily come and will take place in the form of what happened to this census worker, these self proclaimed avengers of "our America" will take the law into their own hands and feel completely justified in doing so. I've lived in the south for 27 years and they are easily swayed against anyone seen as interfering in their small worlds. Ignorant beliefs about outsiders, big city government and what their America should look like is worn like a badge of honor, and even more so for the religious right among them. No amount of facts can interrupt their mindset. Its scarry !!! We have a little known KKK cluster f___ who meet once a month which includes well thought of local police, county employees, lawyers, and law makers. When people of this mindset decide to take action they will do it in ways that are not easily descernable and each will cover for the other in the good old boy network making it nearly impossible to find out whose to blame when something like that hanging takes place. I've seen some if these type occurances and the coverups take place several times through the years of working in local government.

Tragically, I am not surprised by this. Living in a red state as I do, the things I witnessed on Election night in public were horrifying. Ditto last summer's Teabag Party here in town. Social conservatives seem to have just come uhinged, driven mad by the cognitive dissonance of being out of power for the first time in over a generation, and beat by a Muslim socialist n****r to boot.

Either the nutjobs that engage in these horrors will spin out of control and into irrelevance, or this nation is in serious trouble. I fear for the life of our President, and I'm not kidding about that...

Oh, the same backwards pieces of shit that don't realize that Medicare IS government run health insurance?

The same backwards pieces of shit that screamed bloody murder for welfare reform, not realizing that the vast majority of welfare recipients are rural WHITE women?

The same backwards pieces of shit that demanded education reform only to find that over half the schools rated as failing by NCLB are in rural WHITE communities?

I am a native Southerner, and I thought I knew what knuckle dragging illiterate rednecks were. Until I moved to Appalachia for four years. My God in Heaven...

You do realize you just made a comment about murderers into a comment about an entire region, right?

This sort of hate crime (and that's what it is) arises from a mindset that is pervasive amongst a certain kind of person, and that certain kind of person can largely be located in certain regions of the country (of course with exceptions). Having lived among certain kinds of people in certain regions of the country, I know what I'm talking about.

Hmmmm....sounds like she's cruising for a bruising! If she refuses to participate in the census, she will be censured by the House! Mark my words.

    >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> I'm hoping that some reasonably inteligent republican gets through to her to shut off her inflamatory remarks about the census because her words falling on ignorant people ears could bring more of what happened to this worker out in the forest. What will it take for republicans to get it that they have to tell their far right to tone it down?
