Hm, I think this topic have been asked before - but hey, doesn't hurt to ask again. Hm, I am in a Thanksgiving/Christmas Traveling mood this week. Let's do a ranking of your top 10 cities you've been to/lived in/visited/want to come and play - your opinions about them, what makes them gay friendly/beautiful/cool. Here's my top 10 of the most-Popular/Gay/Fun cities. Have fun everyone.

1. Paris - Gay Pari (world most beautiful city/Marais district)
2. San Francisco, CA - (Castro/gayest place in the US)
3. New York City - NYC (Chelsea boys hm, I love the big Apple)
4. London - major gay mecca in the UK (the boys are cool)
5. Las Vegas - (Krave/the Strip) sin city baby, need I say more?
6. Los Angeles - City of Angels, West Hollywood scene
7. Laguna Beach - part of LA in beautiful OC town
8. San Diego - ha, another beautiful city in SoCal
9. Chicago - (Boystown) great city, hm, wanting to come back and visit
10. Munich, DE - hm another great city in Germany

* Ok, I'm biased since 4 cities are in Cali - :shockh well!

* I'm contemplating Rome this December - I'd probably head to Tokyo Japan next spring.

* What does your travel plans look like? Any recommendations to go anywhere else? Cool.

amazed that New Orleans is not on the, if not at the top of, this list.

mardi gras?

southern decadence?

haloween?

heck, ANY weekend in several neighborhoods here is a gay event...

Berlin may not be the gayest. But it is the queerest by far.

Your list is very USA-cenric.

How about a few more European cities. Barcelona and Madrid are both better than Vegas (which has possibly the worst Gay scene in the world).

I agree with your top four but would definately include Berlin and Sydney in my top ten.

BTW, Laguna is Still considered LA for all intensive purposes. Also, its not that gay friendly! It just so happens that a lot of old rich gay men live there. However, slowly they are being bought out by rich upper middle class conservative white folk (:

Paris? definitely not the most beautiful city in the world.
Sep 24, 2009 8:14 PM GMT
Go to Southern hemisphere where it's summer, since you're talking about winter break. European, East coast, or Midwestern US cities can be frigid this time of year, even Paris or Rome can be quite cold.

Sydney, Rio de Janeiro, Buenos Aires, Cape Town, although tickets do cost more to go down there...

Southern Europe might have a few places with agreeable winters, as do southern US. New Orleans, South Florida should be on your list too.

As far as Asia is concern I give it to those city in Thailand like Bangkok, probably Pattaya or Phuket/ Samui. But it really a "sex for sales" kinda things. Stuff like gay sleaze join, gay sauna, gay massage, gay friendly hotel/restaurant and gay dancing . Singapore can be exciting IF you know where to look. But as far as gay living like gay married, gay immigration, gay civil right movement.....we dont have it here (as far as I know).

Given that we can actually get married in Canada, but not in many of those U.S. cities, I certainly would put Toronto and Montréal on the list. Probably Vancouver too.

... and Vegas is an AWFUL gay city.

Barcelona - most stylish and greatest variety of men probably anywhere in the Mediterranean

Madrid - friendliest gay city I've ever been to. Chueca is AWESOME!!

New York

San Francisco - duh

Vancouver - pride there was off the chain!

Amsterdam

Tel Aviv - per capita definitely one of the gayest cities in the world. Plus most of the guys are soldiers!

Hate to correct you, but New Orleans will do YOU....

LA
San Fran
Chicago
Madrid
New Orleans

I also think Vegas is NOT a very gay city.

Sep 25, 2009 2:22 AM GMT
Someone mentioned Boston. IMHO it is NOT a top ten gay city. Sure they have the supportive laws. But there are so many closet cases there it's nuts. And I've heard the word faggot there a hundred times more than I've heard it in TX (not just talking about Austin either).

Austin is a very gay city. It's very integrated though so you don't notice it in the stereotypically gay sense. So I doubt it would make any conventional top ten gay lists.

Sorry...I'm not intrepid enough to chime in on a decent top ten myself. :-( But of the places I have been (long enough to experience the gay aspects) I'd say.:

1. San Francisco
2. Provincetown
3. NYC
4. New Orleans
5. Austin
6. Vancouver
7. Hollywood
8. Montreal
9. Boston
10. Dallas

Badly missing the cut: San Diego, Houston, San Antonio, Albuquerque

I spent a week in Vegas earlier this year and found little gay life. I heard there was a little gay area outside of the strip called Paradise, but I came down with the flu so I didn't get to explore. :/

I love this topic.

I'll be moving away from Minneapolis in a couple of years, back to Europe, and have basically no clue where I'd enjoy living. Paris and London are top of my list...

I've heard good things about Munich too - anyone got any experience of it? How about Amsterdam?

For whoever mentioned Columbus - it and Minneapolis are probably decent enough gay-friendly places to live, but they're not exactly cosmopolitan cities or fun tourist destinations. Might be worth listing "easy places to live" on a separate list?

Yeah I thought Vegas was a straight runned town. I think Orlando is more gayer than Vegas!

I'm pretty sure Ft. Lauderdale trumps as a gay mecca in North America. Ybor and St. Petersburg gets pretty gay too!

2. Madrid (Chueca district)
3. Cape Town

5. Buenos Aires
6. Toronto
7. Berlin

9. New York
10. Sydney

I can't believe I had to scroll almost all the way down to the bottom to see someone mention of Montreal on this thread. WHAT?! You boys better get yourselves to Montreal, you do not know what you're missing. One of the most open and liberally-minded gay cities in North America, by far.

omg, so many responses! Ok, 2 things first.

Vegas - is a popular city, not a very gay city, most of you guys are correct. I think I have a gambling problem lol, that's why it's there.

Laguna Beach - is part of LA and a suburb, I love the show on MTV and most of the guys there are Hot! plus I grew up around the beaches. So, it's on the list bc I'm biased a bit hehe.

Here is another list of my unvisited/wanting-to-come-and-play cities: (let's do it in the next 2-3 yrs time frame). Share tips about these places if you have some.

1. Sydney
2. Rio
3. Barcelona
4. Toronto
5. Berlin
6. Montreal
7. Madrid
8. New Orleans
9. Vancouver
10. Orlando/Palm Beach area.

Hm, 3 cities are in Canada - pretty good.

my top ten cities for their gay offerings, in no particular order...

London, UK

Montreal, Canada

Brighton, UK

Sydney, Australia

New York, USA

Sitges, Spain

Melbourne, Australia

Manchester, UK

Amsterdam, Netherlands

Budapest, Hungary

honourable mention would also have to go to Toronto, Washington DC, and Birmingham UK. In the above list the cities don't necessarily have the biggest variety of places but the venues they do have, have proven to offer a good night out including friendly people and low attitude.

I did too.

But I have to disagree on Dallas. It's better than much of Texas/the south but I wouldn't put it on a top 10 list worldwide. And I lived there for 5 years.

Secondly, P-Town and Fire Island aren't really cities, they're resorts. Almost everyone lives somewhere else and goes there for part of a season.

Honourable mentions go to Auckland, Melbourne, Buenos Aires, Cape Town.

Agreed on both points. Boston is liberal in an cold abstract academic way that totally does not translate into daily life. Bostonians do not deal well with anyone who steps outside their duly-appointed comfort zone.

I cannot tell about my own experience...
For sure I would say Montreal and Toronto for now...
By the way there is a pool still on at http://www.tripoutgaytravel.com/awards/
checking where are the best gay cities, bar, hotels...
The six gay destination cities are:
Barcelona
Buenos Aires
London
Montreal
Rio de Janeiro
Sydney
Certainly, those are the cities that I heard about been the best gay destinations...

I agree with most of the list so far

NYC is great
Chicago
LA are all very gay

as far as Europe goes .... Berlin and Barcelona are fantastic
but sorry to say
Rome doesn't have any real gay life to speak of
Sep 26, 2009 9:55 AM GMT
Phoenix is almost like Los Angeles ... The popular gay spot in Phoenix is called Gay Camelback just like in Los Angeles West "Hollywood." Gay Camelback is located in central Phoenix between 7th Ave and 7th Street and Indian School and Camelback roads. There are so many Gay bars & clubs, and gay friendly restaurants...

What the hell bald guy? lol

i'm totally confused here.

Is the thread about the most gay friendly cities , the coolest cities, the most beautiful cities? If we try combining those we get nowhere because no one knows for what reasons cities are chosen.
So it ends up in a list of cities you've been to and liked for various reasons.
And what makes a city a "Best gay destination"? its clubbing scene and saunas?..lol. Circuit parties are just about extinct ( Black and Blue in Montreal is possibly in its last year, so that will leave Miami and Sidney) , some cities have fairly big gay villages, but if you can't get married there it's not "that" gay friendly . So what are the criteria ?

I love DC as a city, but I wasn't overly impressed by the quality of the guys there. Of course, I was a visitor, so maybe I didn't know where to go. I stayed in the Dupont Circle area.

Dallas is awesome, as are New Orleans, San Fran and NYC. I can say that I keep coming across profiles of so many hot guys from Toronto, Columbus and Denver. I also have heard a ton about Montreal.
Cities I've been to that are underrated are Austin and Tampa. For my taste, a higher percentage of Tampa guys are hot.
