    A friend from the army has agreed to help me with dropping my toughest 15 pounds ever. These last 15 pounds determine whether or not I can finally click that profile feature that says: "Truly Defined"

    Since he's had military training, he's agreed to put me through what he went through in boot.

    I was curious as to what specific physical activity or special exercise is "army specific". Please lead me to any previous threads about this subject. I'm really getting pumped about this boost.

    My friend did tell me that I will more likely go through mental changes as well. Aggressive persuasion could really help me out here. How much is too much? Does it work? Any suggestions? Once I say yes, there is NO going back for 2 months.

    Next to Marine Corps Boot Camp, Army Basic Training used to be the most physically intensive; I am now told that the standards have actually fallen below Air Force PT.

    If you are not physically active, you'll want to start preparing yourself a couple of months before. Concentrate on running (both sprints and distance), push-ups, and sit-ups, as these are the basis for both the "pre-test" and the final PT Test.

    Army Basic Training is divided into three phases: Red Phase, White Phase, and Blue Phase. Before you're allowed to begin Red Phase, however, you have to spend time in the Reception Battalion.

    According to those DI’s I know that are still in: Army PT standards have been reduced drastically in the last five years; at the same time the emphasis has shifted to new exercise routines designed to mimic real world combat ops, attempts to retain less and less qualified recruits, yet keep the pipeline full.

    For males, the Initial PT Test consists of 13 push-ups, 17 sit-ups and a one-mile run in under eight and one-half minutes.

    Concentrate on running three miles and long marches (up to 10 miles). Sit-ups and pull-ups are also important. Back in the bad old days (when I was in), you were required to do 2 dead-hang pull-ups, 44 crunches in 2 minutes, and a 1.5 mile run in 13.5 minutes (males).

    Army Drill Sergeants love push-ups. "Drop and Give me Twenty" is mantra. In the first phase, pretty much everyone will get "dropped." You'll be dropped individually, in pairs, and dropped as an entire platoon. At very minimum a dozen times a day, and probably twice that frequently initially.

    Soldiers are required to take a physical fitness test at least twice per year. There are three events which are measured: push-ups, sit-ups, and a timed two-mile run. Soldiers are required to score a minimum of 60 points on each event (50 points per event in order to graduate Army Basic Training).

    As of 2002/3 The Army began instituting yet ANOTHER new Army Daily PT Regimen that includes pull-ups, the shuttle sprint, squat bender, rower and forward lunge and another dozen exercises you’ve never heard of before.

    If I were you I would start training mmyself with the USMC's "daily dozen" in mind:

    1. Side straddle hops (jumping jacks)
    2. Marine Corps Push-ups
    3. Cherry pickers
    4. Rowing Exercise
    5. Side Benders
    6. Flutter Kicks
    7. Toe Touchers
    8. Crunches
    9. Trunk Twisters
    10. In-Place Double Time
    11. Standing Leg Lifts
    12. “Six Inches” (Lying leg-lifts)

    As much as I REALLY HATE to admit it, the Marines do a better job at PT for their entry level people.

    If you are looking for something more advanced I would highly recommend the PT programs the Rangers go through.
