Well .... I have to say I was just waiting for one of these fools to go there

Same-sex marriage is a "purely socialist concept" and is part of a broader push by progressives to turn the United States into a socialist country, an Iowa congressman Steve King says.

I see conservative congressman King has joined in using the latest of their key words "socialism" as a catch all for everything they don't like that progressive dems put forward to benefit more of the public. Mr King must not have read much history, because gay marriage/relationships is not by any means a new subject. Actually ancient Greeks/Athenians who are touted as the great world founders of Democratic principles of government were not only tolerant of gay relationships, but they were the center of life for many of the most prolific writers/thinkers of the time. Maybe Mr King and his ilk should be informed of this history.

    Informed? Republicans? Isn't that oxymoronish?

According to the conservative republicans, if you are not aligned with them, on the far right, you are:

    1) a radical liberal
    2) a socialist
    3) a communist
    4) a nazi
    5) pro "homosexual lobby"
    6) All of the above

(If you picked #6, you WIN !)

Can these idiots even define the word "socialism?" It's like teenagers who use the word "gay" to describe everything they think is lame or uncool. I would think people who call themselves "teabaggers" would be all for gay marriage.

I am really starting to fear for the country because a huge chunk of people are incredibly undereducated. There are some frighteningly stupid people out there.

I link "calling everything socialism" to low IQ and a poor education.

That may be true for many of the astro turf (fake grass roots) supporters, but for the leaders of this movement, they know the truth, but make the decision to deliberately lie and mislead, so as to advance their own agenda and promote their extreme ideology. icon_evil.gif
Huge numbers of people are so easily mislead, and are ready and willing to be lead in ways that reinforce their worse instincts. It is so very sad.

the thing is ..... I don't think most of the people who throw that term around Socialism
Understand it or know what it means
irishkc is right it's a catchall term that means anything that's "bad"

These same people esp the older ones
would fly into a RAGE if someone touched their social security or their medicare
.... and to the uninformed? Psst...their socialist programs icon_cool.gif

Bingo, a society that lives by the printed 'by lines' or the 12 second news report they see between their soaps, Jeopardy and Cops. God forbid (oops, can I say that) they should actually study something before they endorse what someone else has said, regardless of whether it's a Congressman or someone preaching from the pulpit. A lack of education to think for themselves resulting in the continued spreading of misinformation and fabricated truths (also known as lies).

GQJock: You've seen the "keep your government out of my medicare" signs at these rallies, right? It's just sad that our educational system has failed so completely. But the far right is now seems opposed to any university education or science.

    This mirrors your sentiment:
http://www.tampabay.com/opinion/columns/article1027502.eceHave you ever wondered what the world would be like without scientists? Ask the Republican Party. It lives in such a world. Republicans have been so successful in driving out of their party anyone who endeavors in scientific inquiry that pretty soon there won't be anyone left who can distinguish a periodic table from a kitchen table.
    .....
But if the nation's economic situation doesn't turn around soon, a GOP resurgence could very well come. Then scientists will once again be on the defensive against a Republican Party that left them behind in favor of the Tea Party crowd, the birthers, and the people who shout at town halls that government better keep its hands off their Medicare.

Theirs is a world without scientists, and scary doesn't begin to describe it.

http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2009/07/10/only-six-percent-of-scien_n_229382.htmlBut among scientists, there were considerably more Democrats (55%) than independents (32%) and Republicans (6%) put together. There were also more liberals (52%) than moderates (35%) and conservatives (9%)

The funny/sad thing is that you are correct. They do nothing else but demonize.

Even people on the far left scare me... truely there are many IGNORANT people in this country and has much to do with the fact that we as americans dont give a shit about anything that doesnt affect our day-to-day lives. its one of thoes things that is just makes americans americans and that is our down fall. people need a reason to not just know whats going on in the world but rather how and why it affects them or would affect them.

Yes, there are people on both sides who are very uneducated.

In fact, one thing that drives me crazy about a lot of Democrats who are in office, as well some of the people who the Democrats choose for their spokespeople (can we say Donna Brazile?), is how lame they are when defending their positions. Often these are positions that I agree with, but sometimes they make such a bad case for them on television that it seems that they don't even truly understand the reasons why those positions are the most sensible.

There are Republicans who are well-educated on many issues, even if I disagree with their positions most of the time. Unfortunately (though perhaps in some ways this is actually fortunate), it's the stupid and uneducated ones who scream all the time.

The primitive minded stupidity from some of these conservative, right wing politicians never ceases to amaze me. Congressman Steve King is just another bumbling, brain-dead bonehead who is too religious for his own good. Gay marriage is socialistic concept, yeah right only in his dreams.
