Slightly protruding upper abs

Hey,

Im just wondering if anyone has a solution for this or an explanation.

Maybe its just me but when I look at my abs I find that my upper abs come out nearly as far as my chest while my mid and lower are nice and flat. Im pretty defined and I usually purposely try not to workout my uppers (I know they are one big muscle). I've always had this since my teenage years so it has either occurred from natural strengthening or its just my shape.

Anyway, does anyone else have this or know how I can 'flatten out' my abs without over working the others and having my whole set of abs sticking out? (I don't like that, I prefer to have concave abs, if you know what I mean).

Thanks for the help.

I think I'll post a pic so you can see what I mean. They have to get verified first, so, if you dont get what I mean wait and see. It's only slight though.

I'm guessing you are just skinny... Your rib cage extends down past where your abdominal muscles begin.

Also, being a postural muscle, it is probably not a great idea to work out one muscle often, and another not so much. This may even be part of the problem.

Try not to look in the mirror so much

what happens when you do the stomach vacuum exercise on here?

Your ribcage might push the top abdominals forward. Mine are like that as well. On top of that, my abs grow very large and defined quite easily, and they're definitely more convex than concave (I'd prefer concave as well). It's just the way some people are built, though I don't know for sure that's your case as well.

My upper abs appear to stick out a bit... partly in my case itīs weakness, but it may also be your body...

My suggestion is to, maybe, do more inverted ab work and then quitcher bitchin', From your profile pics, you have a body to die for, and I doubt your man is complaining.

I wish I had your problems.

Hey guys,

I think it may just be the way my ribs are and I should stop my bitchin.
Im gonna just work out normally from now on and see what happens.

Thanks for the comments

It's no big deal. You're a little barrel chested. And sexy I might add.

Its your shape man and personally i think your lucky. Def keep hitting them as hard as you would any other body part and you'll have some of the best abber dabbers in the gym.

Peace!

I agree- someone can always improve their body, but it could be your rib cage. I have seen guys at the gym look similar. Be happy- be you!! Your bod looks great. I think you are looking at it too closely!!

Yep, that's exactly what this thread needed.

(ps. a key on a chain?)

I do not mean to be insensitive. But the main reason I think you feel that your uppers abs come out so far, is because you are too skinny. You are 5'11" and only weigh 155lbs. That's awfully slight for that height. Don't get me wrong....you are a very nice looking bloke and appear to be in a fit state. Bloody hell, I wish I had abs that good. LOL!
Once you pack on some muscle you won't have this issue.
(Which by the way really doesn't seem to be an issue in your pics. Again, you look very good.)
Cheers,
Keith

You have a very sexy body, one I'd stare at in a gym or on the beach, so relax.
I, too, have abs that look like yours. You just have to look a little harder to see them now.
Don't worry. Mother Nature & Father Time will take care of the problem soon enough.
PS: I'd guess that is his gym locker key.

Some people, myself included, have a concave ribcage. There's not much you can do about it. I gave up years ago trying to get my pecs big enough to compensate for it because in order for that to happen, I would have to have a 48 inch chest and my waist is only 30...

OK, thanks guys. I hear some of you are giving Musclequest a hard time for the reply he gave. Maybe he's right, who knows! I have been going to the gym for about 2 years now building it up to six days a week. If Im skinny there is not much more I can do about it apart from what Im doing.

I've got the same problem....

lol, I dont see a problem? All I see is a perfect, flat, delectable stomach....
