icon_evil.gif Who are some of your favorite fictional villains? Pick 'em from books, television, movies, basically where ever you find them.
What's makes a good villain in your opinion?

Here's a few favorites off the top of my head:
-Hannibal Lector - Silence Of The Lambs, Hannibal
    -Alex - A Clockwork Orange
    -The Miniature Killer - CSI
    - The Carver - Nip/Tuck
    -The Jigsaw Killer - SAW
    -Paul Millander - CSI
-Charles MacIntyre - The State Within
    -Colleen Rose - Nip/Tuck
    -Voldemort - Harry Potter
-The Joker - The Dark Knight
-Victor Creed - X-Men Origins: Wolverine
    -Michael Myers - Halloween
-Bernard Ryder - The Taking Of Pelham 123

I always enjoy the villains because I enjoy the darker side of humanity and more then less, the villains are usually a lot cooler than the heroes.
I think a good villain has to have 0% remorse, plan things out extremely carefully, and have to be reptilian in the way that they operate business.icon_twisted.gif

I'm not sure who my favorite ones are, but the ones I enjoy are those who lived a similar life as the hero, but for whatever reason — took a different path in life. It is as though the villain and hero are two sides of the same coin. Those are the ones that scare me because you can almost see yourself in them.

Hannibal Lector is my favorite. He strikes a perfect balance between class, culture, and unbridled insanity.

Bad guys always have the best lines.

Most of the villains played by Alan Rickman are delicious. But of course, the master was Harvey Korman.

Oh, can't forget Christopher Lee, Vincent Price, and Max von Sydow. Love those guys!

Catherine Trammell (Sharon Stone)-- Basic Instinct
O'Ren Ishii--Kill Bill. My girl didn't waste any time running across the table and decapitating Boss Tanaka.
The Joker--The Dark Knight (I love the scene with him riding in the police car with his head hanging out the window looking psychotic!)
Magneto-- X-Men (The comic book version. The movie was cool, but he was a ruthless asshole in the comics.)
    Apocalypse-- X-Men (Excellent, shit-talking villain.)

    mr. burns cracks me up

and....parker posey in josie and the pussycats

i second the michelle pfieffer / catwoman suggestion, meow

probably the scariest one for me was the child catcher from 'chitty chitty bang bang' - the one who hated kids and could smell them....

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Child_Catcher[/url]

Frankenstein's monster is probably the villian most intriguing psychologically to me.... his evil is a result of being rejected by society and by his creator

i also love a villain who has a revelation of empathy for the victim... the movie "The Lives of Others" comes to mind

Is a villain any fun, mischievous character that opposes the hero in a movie or TV show?

    If so, then:

Tallulah Bankhead as the Black Widow
    Julie Newmar as Catwoman
    Burgess Meredith as the Penguin
    Victor Buono as King Tut
    Cesar Romero as the Joker
    Frank Gorshin as the Riddler
    Eartha Kitt as Catwoman
    Vincent Price as Egghead
Ann Baxter as Olga, Queen of the Cossacks
(all from the campy old Batman TV series).

If villain means somebody evil, deranged or creepy who scares the bejeesus out of you, then:

    Michelle Bachmann
    Glenn Beck
    Rush Limbaugh
    Sean Hannity
    Sally Kern
    Peter Labarbera
    Maggie Gallagher
    James Dobson
    Jerry Falwell
    Pat Robertson
    Carrie Prejean

Ahhhh! icon_eek.gif *shudders* Now I scared myself so much with that last list that I'm going to have to sleep with the lights on.

    Seta Sōjirō - Rurouni Kenshin
    SetaSojiro.PNG

An abused boy who ends up finding strength in extremist Social Darwinism. His defeat at the hands of Kenshin (the main character) is very well-done.

ah, frank gorshin and cesar romero, classic, as were the characters in the dick tracy movie.

your second list... at first i was going to say, that they were more crazy like mental institution material, and not so much villains, but then i got thinking about what "tools" they all are, and how they must be off camera. that people can be so devoid of character as to spew verbal manure from their mouths, is kinda creepy.

    you forgot bill o'reilly....
