it actually encompasses a wide variety of medical conditions involving bodies not considered “standard” for either male or female. Conditions like congenital adrenal hyperplasia, an endocrine disorder in which the body has too many (or not enough) http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sex_steroid sex steroids, which can influence the appearance of genitalia. And androgen insensitivity syndrome, which can cause people born with XY chromosomes (male typical) to appear feminine.

“There is nothing wrong with having an intersex body, we’re just another variation of the human possibility,” says Caitlin, who’s been outspoken on the issue since first hearing the term for the first time at a conference she attended at 18, which she cites as a turning point in her own activism. “Even for me, I was older, but I was still pushed to do a surgery, but I resisted that and I feel very lucky to do that.”

The term ‘hermaphrodite’ is stigmatizing and confusing,” says Alice Domurat Dreger, a http://www.bioethics.northwestern.edu/faculty/dreger.html professor of clinical medical humanities and bioethics at Northwestern University who is cited regularly by intersex individuals and advocates. “It usually suggests to people that someone has all the organs of males and females—but that is http://alicedreger.com/both_sets_of_genitals.html not physically possible. The medical profession came to a consensus about three years ago to get rid of all terms based on the root ‘hermaphrodite’ (including ‘pseudo-hermaphrodite’) because they are stigmatizing and confusing.”

If you were single, would you be open to having a relationship with someone that is intersex?

Those of you who remember Atlanta's badly-botched gay bar raid (complete with officers in paramilitary gear) in 2009 might remember Officer Dani Lee Harris, the city police department's LGBT liaison who was systematically left out of the loop of her employer's investigation.

Around that time, after struggling with her sexual identity she had "come out" as intersex. She was named the Grand Marshal of that year's Atlanta Pride parade, although not without some controversy in the aftermath of the bar raid that had LGBT citizens on edge with the police.

She was eventually removed from the liaison position but I believe she still maintains a position with the police department.

She was recently featured in the movie Intersexion (2013).

Georgia VoiceMost of us check Male or Female when we fill out forms, even if some change sides along the way. “Intersexion” is an informative, moving documentary about the people who check “None…” or “All of the Above.” More than one in 2000 are born intersex (formerly known as hermaphrodites), a catch-all term for over 30 different conditions of “ambiguous genitalia,” including small penises, large clitorises and manginas. For decades doctors followed the theories of Dr. John Money, which involved surgical alterations to more closely resemble one gender or the other, then raising the child accordingly. Filmmaker Grant Lahood visits five countries on four continents with his narrator, Mani Mitchell (who looks like a bearded lady), to talk to intersex people, including Officer Dani-Lee Harris of the APD. Many have horror stories to tell but most seem happy and well-adjusted. Intersexion is a well-produced eye-opener.

Great rebranding effort, I think it's definitely a move in the right direction for the group of people that absolutely define 'born this way'.

    To answer your question:
I would definitely have a hard time dating Jamie Lee Curtis.
