Can everyone get the, or are they just impossible for some, because no matter how hard i try, cant get em. I know, it seems vain, but . . . i just want em icon_neutral.gif

    If so, HOW??

Thanks, and as always, smartass comments are just a waste of space!

You have to get lean for them to show. You'll kinda see them at 12%, but they really stand out at 8-9% body fat. This is, of course, assuming that you've also done enough core training to have the muscle tone, as well.

Good genes don't hurt, but as Flex says, it requires a relatively low body fat.

Men;s Health has an article about the inguinal crease. The article says you need to get the percent body fat down to 5 to 8 percent.

thanks ya'll, okay, so low body fat, im gonna curb the college diet of beer and coffee/creamer.

Safe to assume less sugar = nicer waist, or any other tips? Basic ab work for the lower abs?

20 minutes of cardio a day, and leg lifts, twists, and crunches like twice a week.

Mine started popping when I hit about 12.5 -13% body fat - while 9% body fat is my goal I think I have a better chance at seeing the tooth fairy. It's a bitch for me to get that lean at 41+. I do a lot of ab/core work though.

Lean plus good ab/core work will get you there though.

I've always heard that it was more due to genetics than anything else.

Guess thay can be developed, and that's nothing but good news.

must be some genetics, i hover around 7% bf and I definitely do not have them! I will add swiss-ball crunches to my daily ab routine and see what happens!

Same here. Though I've noticed as I've put on more muscle mass they're starting to peek out.

People who use the word "abs" to refer to both the rectus abdominis ("abs" for short) and the whole complex of muscles that are referred to as your "core" are clearly showing the reason they don't have "sex lines" / "adonis belts" / etc.:

The reason isn't necessarily body fat levels or diet (altho that's often the case too), it's that there's an elemental level of knowledge about physiology that's missing.

So, after tossing your beer/sugar/creamer diet (!!), spend some quality time on RJ and The Google to learn about the difference between the two. All your answers are there, just spend a few hours searching and reading.

Once you have done that, then add a "core" day to your workout and leave the "abs" for the clueless noobs doing thousands of crunches on all sorts of silly equipment, wondering why they can't "tone up" the "padding" on their "belly" and get "Sex Lines."

My gut is not that toned (getting there!), but I have a bit of the cum gutters, which i love. I think it's genetic ... I have these horrible child-bearing hips that I think helps them stand out, like Ryan Phillippe's. When he's cut, DAMN they look hot on him!

High protein, low carbs, 50 lbs weight loss down to 12 or 13 % body fat and LOTS of ab work. Hanging Leg raises, knee raises, twisting decline situps, weighted situps, crunches, pocket knives, bicycles, Janet Jacksons, planks, etc. I never in my life saw my obliques until I did all the above, even at 51 years old. So if a fat old fart like me can do it, most anybody can. ,
