Ok guys, I'm new to this whole scene and there are a couple things I could use some explanation on.

    1. What are the leather X things with the studs on the straps and the metal circle in the middle of the chest? And why do guys wear these around? I"m assuming its some type of sex thing, but why do guys wear it out?

    2. Why are gay guys so in to wearing speedos? I understand you can see each others junk better, is that the only reason? In the US unless you are at a swim meet you just don't see other dudes in speedos (unless visiting from somewhere else). Seems to be a gay only thing. Why?

    3. Is the whole "gay" way of talking and mannerisms something a lot of gay guys are "born" with or is it like a southern accent where its just cultural to a group of people and its easily picked up.

Hope no one takes offense to these. Just honest questions as I am just exploring all this. Thanks

Harnesses. Some guys look great in them. Perhaps someone who is more into that scene can tell you better. I am thinking of getting one hehe

It´s cultural as it´s not the same in all places. Some of it may be born in, but the expression is cultural. Not everyone is like that. It´s not better or worse. It´s just how some guys are.

Ditto the speedo and harness things. Some of us look great in them. Some of us just like to show off sometimes. LOL For some, it's a full-blown fetish thing.

Effeminate mannerisms or "gay" behavour are just one facet of gay culture. Most gay men don't act girly and are "straight acting" , until he puts your cock in his mouth, then you can feel pretty confident, he's probably gay. Really though, most of us could take you to parties in any part of the country, with hundreds of men and you wouldn't hear anyone say "Girlfriend," and except for the absence of any women named "Sheila" you would think all the men were straight.

I was born with a harness and a speedo already on. Still, my parents had no idea I was gay.

It is called drag. A form of adult dressing up. Some guys think they look good in them. It's all to conform to a particular aspect of gay life

    2. Why are gay guys so in to wearing speedos? I understand you can see each others junk better, is that the only reason? In the US unless you are at a swim meet you just don't see other dudes in speedos (unless visiting from somewhere else). Seems to be a gay only thing. Why?
Another gay fetish. It's all about sex. Why spend insane amounts of money at the gay church and waxing and not show off what you've got?

    3. Is the whole "gay" way of talking and mannerisms something a lot of gay guys are "born" with or is it like a southern accent where its just cultural to a group of people and its easily picked up.
How do you speak? What are your mannerisms like? It's an affectation. Some guys think that doing so somehow prove their gayness. You hang around with a gay crowd and everyone is doing it. To fit in you want to do it too.

Hope no one takes offense to these. Just honest questions as I am just exploring all this. Thanks

Another affectation, which you find on RJ a lot is guys who so painfully distance themselves from thsi stuff, even if it is not really their bag that they become negative images. I call it the Tom of Finland effect.

It's just a thing if you are in to leather and dominatrix type stuff. I don't get it but yeah... it does look good on some guys I guess.

I think its like they said... most guys just like being able to see the goods better and most of the time gay guys have no problem showing off their assets. I personally prefer waring jammers and board-shorts over them for extra drag when working out or when Im out at the beach cause well I like to blend it. I like when a guy wears a lot more and covers more... its kind of like unwrapping a christmas gift to me. hah.

I think its something that is learned. I know I never knew what a lot of these things meant but kind of learned it as I joined the "family". I don't think the mannerisms thing is part of being gay. I know I'm not like a stereotype but I do have my moments when the right song or something comes on... Example: Single Ladies while drunk and with my BF... we just have a fuckin blast lol. or... Beyonce's - "Get Me Bodied" I love listening to that while getting dressed to go out. Puts me in the mood I guess. Or worse... Junior Boys - In the Morning... hah... I hope you get what Im talking about.

That is a habit that Im trying very much to break as my stupid friend got me saying it when ever IM around him and I have to catch myself when Im straight guy friends are with us lol. Im like "oh girerr... bro!" they just give me an eye lol. I need more masculine gay friends. Most of the one are I know are more femm than me. I think thats why I love my guy... he's that perfect balance lol.

The harness and the speedo thing is less about function & more about aesthetics. If it makes you feel hot & you want to flaunt it, why not? It's not really my bag, but some guys rocking the leather and/or speedos look HOT! And of course, everything can become a fetish.

As for the lisp thing, I am unfortunately afflicted. I was never raised around it and I never had any really fem friends. I definitely did not make a conscious decision to sound this way, I actually had always tried to be as straight acting as I could. I have been entertaining the idea of getting speech therapy to sound "normal," because I don't want a lisp to define who I am.

I would recommend reading Me Talk Pretty One Day, a collection of (embellished) non-fiction short stories by David Sedaris. Maybe it would help to read a first person account of what it was like growing up with a lisp. The book is hilarious!

let´s get something clear: having a lisp is not the same as calling your mates "gurl". One is a physical speech pattern, the other a behavioral pattern.

Well before I figured out I was gay, and while others belittled the boys who had a lot of sibilance in their speech (that long sssssss on the letter s), I was always friends with those boys. They were always the ones most appreciative of having friends. They were always the ones I never felt threatened by and always the ones that listened best when I was bemoaning. Anyone can act the tough guy but the tough guys are usually the ones who fold when something goes wrong. The least threatening people, including "lispers", always seemed to be the ones who really could hang tough, even if it hurt a lot.

hah yeah I was going to say "gurl" is not the same thing as a lisp. I have had a lisp my entire life even before I knew what a lisp was.

Thanks for all the replies, much appreciated.

So the harness thing has no function? Its just because it "looks good" and is "sexy"? Yeah I guess I just don't get it. What is more sexy about it then just being bare chested?

jcable, I don't understand how a harness is "showing off". Isn't just going without a shirt even better?

    No offense guys!

Why do you have to start with all the name calling and derogatory comments, just because someone disagrees with you. You've got the emotional maturity of a 10 year old.

Because you are stupid and I refuse to rack my brain to call you anything else. Stupid encapsulates exactly who you are.

Dude it is one of those gay things. It's a gay fetish that some people have. Just like some guys like wearing diapers and panties and leather or dressing up in police uniforms

Some men thinks it makes them look hot and masculine.

It's an each to his own thing. ...

Ummm, no, it isnt... its a scene... just like any other... and the dirty little secret about that ring in the middle? most are simply functionally holding the leather together... some are made specifically to hold a dildo... dont ask me, its a dom bottom thing...

Basically, despite the huffing and puffing, if you like it wear it, if not, don´t. Oh how hard.

On mannerisms it´s kinda the same. I don´t mind guys being who they want to be (so no-one should ACT straight), but I do get frustrated when they become cookie cutter cliches, esp when that cliche is unkindness and majoring on minors.
