Video Games Are For Straight Guys
Oct 03, 2009 7:19 AM GMT
So I was talkin online with a guy a while back and we ended up wanting to hang out and he was like 20 something and I asked what we could do and he said he has a PS3, but didn't know if I was into that. I said I am and I would love to play. He was shocked b/c I guess he said that he hasn't found any gay guys who like to play video games

Is this true? I don't think of "gay" men when I think of Xbox and PS3. BUT we are still guys lol and guys play more video games than girls. Any guys out there gamers? And is it a masc thing or just a guy thing no matter what?

I think we have quite a few videogame threads. Here are a couple..

There's a WoW thread too. And I think there separate threads for PS2, PS3, XBOX, PSP, and DS.

No thats not true. I run a gay gaymer group with about 247 members:

http://gaymers.connexion.org/?revalidation=265291959&rws=0&ts=5131003&grparams=17

and there is also a site with tons more gay guy gamers here:

http://gaygamer.net/

I think its not only just a guy thing but a generational thing. I rarely meet anyone born before I'd say '76 that enjoys gaming or doesnt look upon it in disdain.

Lol! Everyone plays video games, no matter your sexuality...

Gay video gamers? Absolutely! But I can't find any gay gamers to play sports games with. I love Madden, College Football and MLB the Show (among other non-sports games) but I can only get my straight friends to play the sports games with me.

I love gaming! Now my husband on the other hand isn't into it unless you count Sims as a game.

sooooo not true! I waste my life with video games
I have Wii and PS3 with an abundance of games....right now im playing one called Tales of Symphonia 2....I also wasted my life away with an MMORPG called Everquest....and atm im patiently waiting for the next Final Fantasy and Starcraft. When I played WoW I was a member of a gay guild, which was cool, the guild leader was a serious gamer by day and drag queen by night

One of many cases where it's ok for a discussion to continue on its own thread, rather than being directed by the forum police to another.

My roommate and I are big gamers, as are a few of our friends. It's true that the ratio of gay men who are gamers seems lower than the ratio of straight men who game. I think a part of it is that younger men seem to bond over video games, and some younger gay men who feel ostracized from their straight peers would miss out on that.

Keep in mind it's also an age thing. One of my first memories really is playing Super Mario World, but anyone older than my generation didn't have video games so accessible.

Everyone in this world plays videogames. When it comes to hardcore gamers however, it seems like guys in general dominate over girls. So it seems like guys love to waste their time with highquality video-games with a deep storyline while on the other hand girls love simple relatively short alternatives.

Being that said, its a matter of gender and no sexual orientation I know many gay guys(hardcore gamers) who are top class in their videogame category.

Yeah, like me. I'd love some challenges in Soul Calibur or Guilty Gear.

My only experience with this was at a gay party this last year. The theme was childhood games and you had to dress up. I was clueless as what to be and went to the local Goodwill for inspiration finding a pair of blue camo pants that happened to fit. After racking my brain for a bit, I came to two ideas: Contra and Guile from Super Street Fighter. The only problem was that the pants were urban camo and blue. The dude in Contra had green camos, but Guile had blue alternate colors. A few more stops at other stores and I had everything I needed. I even found a toy at Toys R' Us for my Sonic Boom but forgot to bring it to the party.

So I went to the party and the final tally was along the lines: 2 straight guys knew who I was, 2 gay guys knew I was from Street Fighter, everyone else had no clue what the fuck I was (about 50 or so other guesses)... ug

Actually your first image is quite ironic, since Zangief is heavily rumoured to be gay. Well if he was a real person that is.

Anyone that spends that much time making sure their chest and leg hair are prefect triangles has to be gay.

My BF and I are really in to World of Warcraft. He is actually the one that got me in to it. I like video games but I guess because lack of games and consoles growing and overly protective parents never letting me go hang with at friends housing and spend the night playing video games... /sigh... never really got in to it. Now I have a crazy BF that makes up for all that lost youth. I love him. He keeps me young and brings back my youth.

I'm possibly one of the biggest video gamers on this site, literally.

I have so, so, so, so many of them.

Seriously. I have played video games for a long time. Going all the way back to the original Donkey Kong. It was either on the Atari or Colecovision.
Not a "hard core" gamer now because of time but I still play and have a wide variety of interests.
This dude don't know jack.
