I really must ask....do you really read the profiles or just look at the pictures?

I was just wondering if it is ok to take offense to someone who ims you and asks you things they could find out just by doing something as simple as looking at your profile...I mean isn't that what their there for?icon_redface.gif
I mean, just because some hot horny guy comes along and wants to "im" is no reason to lower my standards if you really want me don't you think you should go into a conversation knowing at least SOMETHING about me?icon_neutral.gif

There are no rules or etiquette for people to follow when they use the internet. So, what you may think is bad manners or rude may well be acceptable behaviour to someone else.

If someone doesn't read your profile before IM'ing you then there's not much you can do about it.

On my profile I used to state I didn't have a webcam but I'd still get guys wanting to webcam and they would get annoyed when I told them I didn't have one. But you can always block them or just close the IM window.

On Dlist it's a different story
if a guy unlocks his pics first...you automatically get notified
    I usually will unlock mine
but to answer the original question
    yeah...I look at the pics
but if I like what IC... I'll always look next at the profile

Well I do get that.. I even get IM'd without the person looking at my other pics. Sometimes I just tell him "its in my profile" and if the guy is being polite, I'll just tell him.

I wouldn't get too offended. If you don't want to hear from him, just hit block.

I always read profiles...as a matter of fact that would be the reason why I may have sent you an instant message to begin with and I would say out the gate.

That I enjoyed reading your profile.

Sometime ago I was chatting with this guy and he was asked me "So tell me about yourself"...I asked him did you read my profile? Then asked if I had some naughty photos and I said know I do not and went on to ask a series of questions of when we could hook-up.

At this point I wrote, dude if you had read my profile you would not have wasted our time by messaging me...
we are not a good fit.

It's very annoying when guys can't get past the "EYE CANDY" syndrome.

It is equally annoying to me when a guys profile is incomplete and full of photos...why bother.

    Good Lord!icon_biggrin.gif

What can I say...my mind is my most active "erotic zone"...I READ the profile and then sometimes scan the pics to see if they match my mental image... Some guys have great profiles and pics that match...some, not so great profiles and some...well if you don't put any kind of description in I tend to just ignore it, even if there are pictures. I want meaningful words in a description. Any Buffoon can cut and paste fake pics...

I am inclined to first read the Forum comments, and then check the pix, and if I like what I see and read, then I'll read the whole profile. If I still like what I see, I might say hello.....maybe in that order.

I'm with Jockbod48 there, because I think you get a bit more of somebody's personality in forum posts even than in a profile.

I read peoples' profiles since you can always get to know a little bit about them, which then leads to questions that you can directly ask that person. Pictures, yes, tell a lot and are sometimes worth more than a thousand words, just like some of Rocco's (they are the r0xx0r!), but it's the words themselves that tell more about the person.

definintely read before saying hi...like to get a glimse into who a person is before saying hello... as for what to do... I'd just politely reply, it's in the profile...then see if they actually follow it up by reading.... I know I've missed a few things, damn speed reading course...should get my money back!

I always read profiles and make comments to the guys who have not bothered to fill them out. If you try to IM me I will open your profile first. If it is blank I may even respond "I'm sorry I do not talk to people I know nothing about, please complete your profile. or How do I know what to ask you, your profile needs work etc." Then it depends on how I am feeling, if they explain I may chat or I may not. I also normally do not talk to people with out photos, but this also depends on how much free time I have.

I also have in ALL CAPS:
"**PLEASE DO NOT TRY TO MESSAGE ME WITHOUT FIRST SENDING ME A MESSAGE. I WILL NOT RESPOND TO CHAT REQUESTS FROM GUYS I DON'T KNOW.
    Thanks."

And then I still get chat requests. What guys don't realize is that if they sent me even one regular mail message beforehand, I might chat. But by hitting the chat requests over and over without doing that, they have already shown me everything I need to know about their disregard.

The same is true of private pics. I'm not opposed to anyone seeing my private pics at all, mind you. I'm about as exhibitionist as they come. But you gotta be willing to reciprocate something for me. So I say in my profile "If you want to see my private pics, you gotta have some of your own to show." And sure enough, the requests come for private pictures... and they don't even have a decent, non-blurred public (let alone ANY private pics).

I don't get too irritated or annoyed by it though. I just deny the chat requests, and delete the mail messages. If they persist, I block them. It's not my fault that they can't make the effort to read the profile.

I usually look at someone's profile if they said something interesting in the forum's, or they catch my eye. But then I will read the profile, to see if we have anything in common.

There are a lot of great people on this site, as well as some bitches. Just like life :-)

Just like life : we look at the pics first and after that we read the content of the profile if we like the person's appearance... it's always the fastest way to judge people.. (I'm not complaining .. it's natural but sometimes not right)

i look at the pic..if i like it then i read the profile...my thing is that i dont always remember everything written so i do put my foot in my mouth from time to time. As for others...i dont really mind if they ask me what's already written...what i do ask is the ppl who message me only to get a naked pic or for cybersex

...or money! Or money for sex. Wait...

Seriously, I hate the repeated "hey sexy," "hey gorgeous," "hey beautiful" one-liner emails that make you feel like a vapid tramp on a bad phone sex line. You just know you're being softened up for something, and that something is inevitably money.

When I IM someone I usually read there profile first so I can come up with something clever to say.I think guys are impressed when you comment them on their profile. The problem is that some of the hottest guys have the lamest profiles. It make me wonder if robots created these profiles.

I also have met some of the hottest guys with pictureless profiles.

It does get old when a guy is asking for my private pics. But I'm asking for it because hey I'm posting sexy pictures here.Deep down inside I know what I really want to do is turn guys on lol

Dlist who are we kidding, That site is not a place for the ambiance or intellectual conversation.Realjock site is such a higher quality. I find myself being apart of a big gay borg there at Dlist

Jprichva: only if you mis-spell 'gorgeous,' then ply my sympathies by telling me your mountain goat's pet hampster is sick and to pray some feckless fool will dump a load of money in your pocket...

Edit: Hmmm...maybe I should put a disclaimer asking that feckless fools and vapid tramps need not contact me. Catchy warning, no? Those are officially my fun words of the day now, folks... icon_surprised.gif

Actually, gorgious zDrew, I have something better.

Apparently, a man sharing your name was killed recently in an automobile crash in Nigeria. Turns out he had over $10,000,000 (TEN MILLION USD) in the bank. A search for his next of kin has turned up no one, so the money will go to you. All you need to do is provide me with all your banking information--and do remember that all-important bank routing number, as well as the account number--and I will wire your portion of the proceeds into the account.
