Why is it that I could see all the reasons to fall in love with Jay Hernandez, marry him, live forever with him. but he is just an average looking joe. Is that why? All the hot muscular guys never compare to him- what is it about an average looking guy that makes me want to fall in love.

Compared to him? Compared to him you've got a pool of 2 people, and average would be whatever the hell's in the middle. Compared to a regular group of guys he's definitely pretty high up on the bell curve.

People see others in different ways, if you think someone is hot, someone might not, and vice versa, it's in the eye of the beholder. So screw what is average and what's not... Lol!

Honestly, if you think someone like that is average looking, either you live in a very fortunate location, or else you're going to think that the majority of guys are less attractive than average.

I think one of the biggest problems people have in dating is in evaluating relative attractiveness and how common it is. If the first guy pictured is average because the second guy pictured is hot, well...virtually everyone will be average or less because that second guy is a damn rare example. The OP isn't quite there, given that he says he likes "average" looking men, but if you think only 15% or so of guys are attractive enough to be dateable, your pool will be extremely small. If we want a decent pool of potential partners, we gay guys actually need to be less strict on appearance requirements than straight guys do, for the simple fact that there are so many more straight women than gay men.

Jay Hernandez is hot. I love the lips, the smile, his skin, and damn near pretty much everything about him. He was so cute in Crazy/Beautiful with Kirsten Duntz.

Mate, I'm not sure what is more perplexing, the fact that you think this young hottie is "average looking", or that you find it a problem to only be attracted to, in your eyes, average looking guys. You are likely not going to be meeting, falling in love, marrying, and living forever with this Jay Hernandez guy anyway. What you need is probably a reality check

MSU: I think you are half the reason I keep coming back here. Oh, and to look at all the "average" guys on this website. icon_biggrin.gif

I certainly wouldn't call Jay Hernandez average looking at all. But I think he does exude an approachfulness that so many other good looking men lack. Some really good looking men just seem so aloof and unobtainable. But I've always liked how open Jay's looks are. Few celebrities interest me, but Jay is definitely on my list.

Wish he'd act more. Haven't seen him in anything for quite a while.

The second guy the OP mentioned is not necessarily better than average looking because his face is not in view!! That shifts your focus on his flawless body, which encourages you to fantasize about how his face "must" look like. Believe me, they pose this way for a reason.

Why are "guy next door" types more endearing? Because they look real. The supermodel types look like they had cosmetic surgery, loads of drugs, or both. When I check out a guy I always try to figure out if there could be an emotional connection. A supermodel can be endearing but often they are not. A guy worthy of my attention is someone who doesn't just have a pleasing exterior, but who also has a healthy disposition and agreeable personality.

That's true! Your eye 'completes' the face -- and that face may or may not be pretty

And when you see a good-looking guy, your imagination 'completes' the entire human being -- and that human being, with his soul thrown in, may or may not be pretty

    I'm just saying.

Just an FYI, in case you've never seen the film "The Elephant Man," the most quoted line from the film is when the "Elephant Man" says, " I am not a monster, I am a human being!" So, I'd say it is okay to laugh at that.

I've never seen the movie, but I've read about the story. And I think that the part where he says that, he says it after people chase him in a train (is this true, guys?)

That a human being has to assert his humanity like that... well, I think it's sad. Maybe I'm wrong.
