A year ago tonight I was sitting on my couch with a shattered left arm waiting to go into surgery the next morning. Ended up getting two plates and eleven screws(ulna was fractured, radius was fully displaced). Definitely the worst injury I've had to date...knock on wood!

    So, what's your worst?

Tore my meniscus during martial arts sparring. I didn't pivot on my foot enough so it was kinda my fault. At first I just "walked it off" but it got worse. I ended up needing surgery.

How did you break your arm ?

On three separate occasions, I had my elbow, my knee, and my head sliced open, requiring stitches. The first two were freak accidents:

Elbow: On a can lid that was left on an under-the-cabinet mounted can opener
Knee: When I walked into a spinning wheel on the front of a stationary exercise bike
Head: In a car accident, as I was crossing an intersection, and another guy ran the light, slamming into my drivers side door.

hmm, stress fracture on the right fibula .
caused by worn out running shoes and me compensating. The bone gradually shattered near the ankle and one day, running half way up Mont Royal in Montreal, it just gave. GAH! the swelling !

and losing a lot of skin in a MTbike race. Coming down at about 40km/h to a 90 degree turn on hard dry clay , a guy in front crashed, then i did and three others piled up on top of us. My beautiful Pearl Izumi bibs were totally ruined ( gay moment ) , and i was a bloody mess from the hip down to the knee almost.

bah, long time ago. Now nothing ever happens to me., not even a broken heart.

I have a ten inch scar on my left thigh I got from sliding down a hill of ice into broken glass. It ruined my promising garter belt modeling career.

Somewhere between the ages of 8 and 11 my brother thought it would be cool to remove the brakes frm my bike? Not knowing I rode into an electric fence and as a result ripped half my lower lip OFF. It was stitched back on and my parents BEAT HIS ASS!

I fell off a cliff once when I was 8 and landed in a tree, still had a mild concession but scared of heights to this day. Also, broke my arm in a bike accident.

Mine was pretty mild compared to others. One time I stepped on a sewing needle. It went in pretty deep. Since the needle was so thin and smooth, I couldn't pull it out with my fingers. I had to limp to the garage and grab some pliers. There was a little resistance, but I managed to yank it out. icon_lol.gif

I've never had anything I consider a major injury, but I've broken minor bones (ribs, finger, foot, toes) seven times, and once fell on a large nail that stuck in my shin. icon_eek.gif Getting it out was much worse than it going in.

My worst injury sports related anyway would be when I blew my left knee out while running 4 summers ago. I came as close (according to two doctors) to needing surgery as you can come without having to do it.

How it happened was that I misjudged the crown on a street as I was running from the curb, and I planted my foot where I THOUGHT the street should be. The street had other ideas and due to the misstep, I spiked my left leg, throwing me off stride and off balance. I then went down, but my shoe gripped the pavement instead of sliding out and I twisted and compressed my knee. (Thanks to brand new shoes combined with klutziness). The pain is best described as dull beginning and was searing as I tried to get up.

Making this worse - I was 3/4 of a mile from home, it was 85 degrees and I had my iPod blaring in my ears I was shirtless (and had no wallet anyway) so I couldn't get a cab.

Suffice it to say I can't run anymore and had inflamation on and off for over two years with a few very painful cortizone shots involved. Not an experience I ever care to repeat.

Torn my rectus femoris tendon. It completely detached and my rectus femoris muscle knotted up half up my thigh.

I got shot through the chest and arm at age 17 by a drugged burglar on PCP who robbed our house. Missed the heart (so says the doc) because it was on the inbound when the bullet passed by. True story. Dead serious.

Broke the same same ankle/leg 3 times.

1st 1998 out hiking and fell down a hill. Thought it was just sprained so walked nearly a mile with help out of the canyon and went to the hospital. Needed 3 screws to hold my splintered fibula together.

2nd 2001 drunk wrestling and snapped through the tibia and fibula. Needed a plate to replace the screws in the fibula and 4 screws to hold together the tibia.

2007 had the hardware removed. It is very painful when you keep hitting right on one of the screws.

3rd 2008 slipped on wet railroad ties (stairs) and snapped the tibia and fibula. Needed a rod inserted in the tibia while the fibula was left alone (non-weight bearing, go figure).

Now having some fun pain from the mild leg workouts and keeping it very light for a few weeks (just elliptical for my legs but they look pretty balanced now).

I'm a klutz and will forever have one ankle that is discolored and appears swollen.

Nothing exciting, but about 3 months ago I tore the ligaments in my left ankle. Grade 2 sprain, apparently. Sucked coz I couldn't play hockey or do cardio for a few months.
