Do macho men do aerobic dance?

I not talking about masculine aerobic stuff, like kicKboxing and bootcamp cardio. But one of those Jane Fonda / Richard Simmons type aerobic.
Frankly, I always thought those a for for ladies...until I try it. I think it fun, relaxing , the music is really lively.(oldies, salsa, twist or whatever). Nobody are forcing and breathing behind my neck. No "military type" instructor bullying me and demanding me to work harder. No muscle guy around to make me feel how out of shape I am. Time really fly when you are having fun

However I do feel a little bit uncomfortable working out with all this ladies (most of the the time I am the only male).

Any body else feel the way I do?

Being a masculine man means doing whatever the fuck you want to and not caring what people think about it. Including aerobic dance, or wearing a tutu.

your issue with dancing with ladies to get a good legitimate work out in, or your fear that exercise forms predominated by women aren't legitimized as work outs, points to issues with your own masculinity or hang-ups about machismo that should be the real topic here; the topic within the topic. whether exercise can be sexually polarized between male and female is irrelevant and silly. if it gets your heart pounding and your muscles sore, its fair game in my book.

Okay.....I'll throw my two cents in since I have taught Group Exercise Classes for over 14 years in the Southeast and the Mid-Atlantic.

That video is old school 1980's Hi Impact Aerobics. It was a series of moves only...nothing seriously choreographed. You will be hard pressed to find a class like that taught these days.

Today's step and floor classes are much more choreographed. The instructor should be able to tell you if it is geared towards a beginner or the more advanced participant. I get a handful of men in my classes. But it is 90% women.

A Spin, or Boot Camp, or Kickboxing class will have more men in the class.

I agree with NikeAthlete! I teach Group Fitness as well and my classes aren't anything like that.

Guys,

I do that tape (I rent a video cassete from Blockbuster ) some 20 years ago when I was in the USA. The guys are all Playgirl model who poses nude in Playgirl magazine. It for ladies but I do it anyway. My live in bf thought I am a really sissy for doing it.

I partcipated in an aerobics class before at Godl's Gym, but it was an all male class, so I did not feel out of place. It a great cardio and strength building workout. I loved it.

Dude anybody can do anything they want...who cares. Just do what you enjoy. I collect trolls, refurb and sell them. Im not flaming and considered masculine. I dont care what people think, I enjoy it and do what I enjoy.

Personally I don't do aerobics but my answer would be yes. For example at our health club they had a "Belly Dancing" aerobics class for a while and guys participated as well as the gals.

That took some gonads! LOL - it made for great entertainment to those working out in the gym.

Let's see. I don't think that Clint Eastwood would do ladies aerobic fitness classes so I'd say no, macho men (he's my picture of an old school macho/masculine guy) wouldn't do it. I disagree that macho men would also walk around in a tutu if that's what they felt like. I think that's just self-confidence and a desire to do whatever the fuck one wants, not machismo, which is more or less "acting in a masculine fashion".

Your issue is: you like aerobic dance and apparently have for 20 years and you're afraid it isn't macho. Well...it isn't. So now the real question. Will you still do it anyway?

If you decide that you like it enough to continue, then you're focused on what you want. if you stop because it's "not macho", then you're more concerned about what other people think. Those are way more interesting questions (and answers.)

Can't wait to hear what you decide to do.

What I decide to do? I gonna do whatever I feel like doing . I am done with trying to impress people and trying to be masculine, You are right, I do enjoy aerobic (Richard Simmon type). Thank you for pointing that out. As a matter of fact, I have a bunch of girly type aerobic that I do in the privacy of my study/living room.

Now , each night I do aerobic as I please, salsa, twist with the oldies, funrobic , step dance and I dont care if I am the only male in the class

Life is way to short do not do what you enjoy.. Grew up cowboy, farmer, 4H, FFA, with Martial arts background, have a degree in dance (Ballet and Modern ). Some times ya’all just have to man up and “flit”. Confidence is by far the most attractive attribute of any man, bar none!

I think some actually listen to The Village People while doing it. What was the name of the song???
