Have any of you heard about this?

Yesterday the Director of this new program came to Albuquerque, NM to hear what some of us here had to say about the policy on a nationwide tour.

My question for everyone is: did you go to one near you or have you participated already?

If not, here is their website http://www.whitehouse.gov/administration/eop/onap/staff/. I think this is a very good thing. It allows regular people like you and I to address what we think improvable policy is.

So in this forum, let's address how to reduce HIV incidence, increase access to care and optimize health outcomes for people living with HIV, and reduce HIV-related health disparities (as stated on their website).

The last day to submit recommendations is Nov 13, 2009.

First I think to reduce HIV incidence (aka prevention) I think we as a nation need to de-stigmatize this disease so more people are will to come out as positive.

Second, we need to eliminate homophobia as best we can to ensure young gay men, and gay men in general, feel good enough to care about themselves enough to protect themselves.

Last, I think we need to address gay men as gay men in advertising. The CDC uses MSM. Most of use don't know what that means (men who have sex with men).

There is a reason for the term MSM.

Lots of guys, such as guys on "the down low", do not do not self-identify as flaming gay queers and tune out any message directed towards sissies. They think that they are not at risk because they only take loads up the ass from masculine manly men, not from faggots.

Different prevention messages need to to targeted to specific audiences.

One risk category is hetero women who think their male partner is monogamous, but he is not. In a prevention planning meeting with the state health department I proposed a slogan for these women: "all men are liars, especially yours" It got shot down by bigwigs back at headquarters.

I think the media could start by not making every pop diva dress like a slut and everyone on prime time drama act like a slut. I think Hero's is the only prime time show now were everyone isn't popping in and out of bed with each other, probably because everyone on Hero's is trying to kill each other. Not once do I see these characters reach for and open a condom. It wouldn't take up a second to add that detail to a scene. Magazine ads like these subtle ones where a half naked spinster is draped over a hunk's body, shouldn't there be a condom in view, like on the nightstand or floor? It's no secret everyone from beer to blue jeans are selling sex, just not safe sex.

Gay men can eliminate homophobia themselves by embracing and growing their community. Gays have got to stop segregating themselves from the community because of mannerism differences and the like. AIDS/HIV delivers the message better than I can: we are all the same, at least when it comes to what we do sexually and the effects of that act. Gay teens who commit suicide and men who bug chase because they don't feel valued just prove further that being gay is more than just about sex or mannerisms because the men doing this are of both molds. If we come together as a community, the pos, the down low, the coming out gays will know where to go, to their community. Lessening homophobia is already happening in straight society, the worst "homophobia" is much stronger among us.

Marriage will eventually happen and sends a very positive anti promiscuous message. It also lifts the veil on our love and makes it recognizable to "society". I think so many gays are influenced too much by flawed reasoning from child hood and misconceptions in straight society that makes them think sex is all a gay man's life is; another reason for a strong community to rise up that reaches out to the young gays so they get the scoop from it and not gay porn and lies.
