i've had the shaved head/goatee facial look goin' for 8 years now...considering going back to the carefully groomed, well trimmed beard i had in college but keeping the shaved to the bone daily scalp.

whaddathink? too "ghetto" looking? judging by my avi here, how do you think this "look" would be on me? icon_confused.gif

i dont see how having a shaved head/ mustache can be ghetto. i swear people always mis -use that term..especially when they have no idea what a real ghetto is. Anyways i think the correct question you wanted to ask was if it makes you look older and yes it does......scratches...icon_twisted.gif

Ghetto??? Wait til my boyfriend reads that. Definitely NOT ghetto -- at all. I will tell you that since I shaved my head bald and grew my "chinstrap", I have gotten a lot more attention and comments from people, all good.

I don't mind your look now, but why not go ahead and try the trimmed look? You can always grow it out again if you want.

I know what you mean. I recently took the stuff white people like test and I was far whiter than I thought. So now I've stopped shopping at Whole Foods, stop threatening to move to Canada, stopped wearing The North Face jackets and New Balance shoes, and am no longer looking to buy a Subaru.

That is the first thing that I thought, too. But that word has gone mainstream, and I use "suburban" to irritate people.

the only ghetto i know here is the hasidic one , and you do not remotely look like that... though i suppose you could look cute in a fur hat and curls dangling on each side.

some of you uptight, politically correct, holier-than-thou nellies need to loosen up and get a life! icon_lol.gif

shifty, tereseus: i have spent my entire life in new orleans, one of the most multi-cultured cities in America. the "ghetto" look i made reference to, (shaved head and trimmed beard) was first observed here in new orleans on guys living in the various housing projects scattered around the city. icon_cool.gif

I've kept mine shaved and trimmed since 1990. Though I've let my hair come back a coupla times I've always gone back to the goatee and smooth look. Make a better impression that way. Now if only the grey would go away as naturally as it came in... Since your head looks nice and roundly shaped also I do think you will look good either way rnch...

I grew a moustache in Junior High and then a full beard when I graduated HIgh School in 1982. In 1984 I shaved my head and have kept it all that way ever since.

Give it a try, you might like it.

I love it that you quote yourself, you must be terribly important. Even intellectual titans such as yourself get it wrong. Here is Webster's definition of ghetto:

    ghetto |ˈgetō|
noun ( pl. -tos or -toes)
a part of a city, esp. a slum area, occupied by a minority group or groups.
    • historical the Jewish quarter in a city : the Warsaw Ghetto.
    • an isolated or segregated group or area : the relative security of the gay ghetto.

    verb ( -toes, -toed) [ trans. ]
put in or restrict to an isolated or segregated area or group.

ORIGIN early 17th cent.: perhaps from Italian getto ‘foundry’ (because the first ghetto was established in 1516 on the site of a foundry in Venice), or from Italian borghetto, diminutive of borgo ‘borough.’

    ghetto_venice.jpg
This is the ghetto sestiere of Venice. The houses are built taller than in other sestieri because Jews where not allowed to live outside of the ghetto and space was limited.

When mch mentioned this my thought was gay ghetto, where this look has become more common.

..goodnight and sweet dreams...o and you were too rude to your mother in law..i hope she doesn't invite you back to her house.

Like most styles, it depends on the guy. I would look terrible that way, but other guys look OK.

I lost the beard when it went too white, and as I still have a full head of hair, not yet white or gray, I see no reason to shave it off.

If I had male-pattern baldness I might consider it (either that or a baseball cap 24/7), because isn't a large part of that style really about dealing with natural baldness? I don't know too many guys with all their hair who do the totally bald look, especially the younger. Buzzed, yes, but not shaved to the skin.

So I think I'll wait until bald patches start appearing on their own (and hopefully never) before I take a razor to the whole thing. Until then I'll flaunt what I still have, and leave guys guessing whether at my age it's really a bad toupee -- LOL!

As a person whose hairline is receding and has had a goatee since he was 25, I am all in favor of it.
