Mickey Rourke has activists up in arms after he attempted to defend video footage of him calling a journalist a gay slur. "I don't really give a f***. Life's too short," Rourke told UK's The Sun. "I have more gay friends than any 50 straight people I know, so I don't really give a s***. I meant what I said," he added.

The film, dating back to last November, features an inebriated Rourke hitting back at a reporter for claiming he was dating actress Evan Rachel Wood. "She's a good friend, that's it. And tell that f***ot who wrote all that shit in the paper I'd like to break his f****** legs," he said

Previously Rourke whipped up controversy in the past when he called Sean Penn "one of the most homophobic people I know" - in reference to the actor's portrayal of gay activist Harvey Milk in 'Milk.

Why is anybody offended by this? I thought Rourke was gay. I saw some crappy show on E! with him kissing a guy outside a club. He also goes to the gay clubs in Miami that Omar throws.

Anyone who has the opportunity or who's voice can be heard by many on a universal scale should use it for something other than making negative statements. I'm surprised you have to ask?

I'm only mad if the reporter isn't gay. How dare he call a straight person gay...it's such a negative name to be called. P.S. I don't think faggot is a negative term, but I attempted to trouble shoot before the fact, am tired of being in your flame throwers sights.

A lot of guys say the same about the N wrd! I guess it's how you say it. Anytime you lash out and use wrds to hurt someone it's negitive. Which was what he did or was trying to do.

It seems like every day somebody is offended by something that somebody said. I have been desensitized to it because it is a constant uproar, the person apologizes momentarily, and then it is on to the next offense. People need to grow a thicker skin.

He called someone a name, which would only be offensive, if the guy really was gay and he was calling him a faggot. As it was, he just called someone a faggot, which is only offensive if you think "faggot" denotes negativity. The word N, I could argue isn't the same because it never had a positive context, from conception on it was negative.

    meh.

it's become such common use these days, it's almost as if he had said "tell that fucker" instead of Faggot.

you're even censoring the use of the words in your own post.

who's giving it all the power? Mickey Rourke or You?

I see. And faggot originally met a bundle of sticks so I guess it was kind of neutral from the start.

    oh, please.

don't try and get all uppity just because someone used a bad word.

it's a fucking word. Guilty knows i'm not a racist and even if I were he could kick my ass three times all across this planet.

when it comes down to it, it's a word. Faggot's a word, Homo's a word, Queer is a word, and so is Nigger.

it's the intention of said word that makes people freak out. I could call you a blueberry and if I said it in the right manner, you'd get offended. I realize that some people's feelings may get hurt by the use of said words, but if you're going to let some fucknut who doesn't know anything about you make a judgment and let it ruin your whole fucking day, you need to take a step back and look at the situation. Fish gonna swim, frogs gonna jump and
    1257.jpg

and; to top it all off, I didn't even say Nigger. I used the exact same "word" in my post as Guilty did. So fuck off, hypocrite.

Mickey Rourke is a nobody and this is probably the biggest publicity he's received in decades but I think people are missing the point of Hillie's post. We can't tolerate this type of language. Sure, in your personal life, who cares? Fuck them. However, when it comes to mainstream media, we can't allow that. There are tons of people in the closet, kids dealing with homophobia in a real sense on a daily basis out there, etc. We can't sit back and just say oh well, it's just Mickey Rourke. Someone needs to serve his ass some fruit cake fiercely. LOL!

What are you all upset about? The fact that I might even be upset or offended should make you take notice. Instead you get defensive and argue your point to try to lighten the wrd and use it. It amazes me that you would even have such little respect but it says much about you. I personally don't use the wrd and whatever spin ANYONE might want to give it. Only I know how it makes me feel or care for that matter. Your lack of respect for that alone is enough for pause. G.G. and I are two different people w/ two very different experiences of living as blkmen. Your kinship/friendship w/ him is great and what he agrees to or what level you two have is great and your business, but I don't know you and just because you have blk friend does not mean that you have a pass to use that wrd so casually

Seriously? I'm sorry, but faggot is at least AS offensive as the N word.

Pre Revolutionary War, the n word was just the word used to describe black slaves. It could be used offensively or without intended insult. That being said, the word has always implied an inferiority about the people it is intended.
It is a horrible word, completely! Anyone who uses it is stupid.

BUT, faggot. A faggot is a stick or a pile of sticks that you use to make a fire. It can be as simple as a camp fire OR a fire that one used to burn people at the stake! THUS, heterosexuals called homosexuals faggot because we were the people they were burning. It is fucking sick.
And no one truly recognizes the outrageousness of the word because the community still doesn't care about gay people yet. Not really.

    Two points:

    1. Those of you saying Rourke is a has-been must have missed his fairly remarkable comeback last year in which he won multiple acting awards for The Wrestler and was nominated for an Oscar. He's playing the lead villain in Iron Man 2 next summer.

    2. I couldn't care less what he has to say.

Be careful where you say it. In some quarters you can get a beating
