THE LARD ASS INTERVIEW ON THE TODAY SHOW

Nobody in my family mistakes what I think about the conservative commentator Rush Limbaugh.

He's a mainstay as to why the partisan divide is worse, his disrespectful style, his "blow hard attitude".. personally and professionally (thats a joke),
I object to him because he makes his nasty attacks personal on anyone he doesn't like.
I despise the slob. I'm only glad we now have middle and left voices that
speak out against his (mostly unfair) attacks.

So when he appeared on the TODAY SHOW yesteday and today, I wanted to listen carefully, to gain some aspect of reason about why and how he became Mr. Right Wing lard ass..... and I did. It was interesting. I gained
some appreciation of him as a "performer" vs. Rush (the person, "off radio").
...why and how he believes (and acts) the way he does. He has largely been very effective about getting attention (which was his objective). He
blames Obama for making things worse... I just laugh.

The outcome: No change. I despise the slob.

I find the sobriquet "right wing comedian and self publicist Rush Limbaugh" effective. Also, when told that he said such and such nonsense, reply with "bless, I suppose his ratings must be down".

What is Rush Limbaugh, but an overweight, male version of Paris Hilton?

I think Al Franken's description was dead on: A Big Fat Idiot.

Agreed with you all - he is a despicable human being, and the instigator of so much misery in our country - he is exactly like those evil middle eastern clerics who poison the minds of their students to join a jihad against the west
He agreed with Al Qaeda that Obama did not deserve the Nobel prize.

to my mind, his impending heart attack or drug overdose can not happen fast enough

Ugh. I hate that you're going to make me defend Rush Limbaugh here. Paris Hilton was essentially given fame due to being born a wealthy heiress. Whether you like or hate Limbaugh, he worked to get where he is.

And seriously, has weight become some sort of secret barometer of personal worth? I don't see any need to poke fun at a person in their late 50s for being heavy.

I personally disagree with the views he espouses when he's "on stage" as a Republican commentator, and could be critical of what he does in his personal life (for example, his pain medication addiction), but that would be spending too much time on a person who is ultimately a rodeo clown.

Hilton wasn't just given fame; she's actively cultivated it into a kind of business of being famous. She's gone from a who-cares-about-her socialite to a money-making machine in her own right (the way I'd say Limbaugh has gone about cultivating his own cult of personality on talk radio; however, Hilton's success was far more immediate due to instantly-worldwide-media times we live in). Whether one is more worthy of respect and recognition is another matter.

His weight, at least in this case, is only relevant as a contrast to Hilton's underweightedness.

Generally speaking, it has not "become" so, at least recently; it has been so for quite some time. Now, what a particular weight or shape means has varied greatly (f.ex. overweight could, depending on its extent and context, indicate a healthy voluptuousness [think Rubenesque], an expression of wealth and plenty, or the sin of gluttony). However, using weight as a short-hand for a person's worth is neither new nor "secret."

Whether this short-hand is or should be socially acceptable or tactful is another question. These days it is part of our social awareness discussion, and challenged as a means through which we estimate a person's abilities and capabilities (particularly when it comes to persons with excess weight). If this is a time of transition toward a time without regard for a person's weight other than its strictly instrumental implications, then consider the uses here on the site the last remnants of a social construction that's crumbling and about to fall.

the man is an entertainer. the sad uninformed masses who take his word as the gospel are dumb. i don't think he is a horrible guy. he speaks his opinions and like he even says he has a very satyric tone with everything he says and does.

People like Paris Hilton, Rush Limbaugh, Howard Stern, Glenn Beck, Nancy Grace, etc...they have one goal: make money.

They've all successfully found their niche for that. Not on an Oprah level, but nonetheless very few find a way to be unique.

Not everyone succeeds. Star Jones anyone?

If you want to disagree with him that is one thing.

Please don't wish death on someone for something as simple as having a different opinion than yours. It makes you no different than him.

I dont agree with most of what Rush says, but at least he uses his voice to speak his version of the truth. If he were saying what you thought, would he still be a bad person?

This is america people, where everyone has the opportunity to have a voice. Don't like it? Im sure there are countries better suited for you.

I understand he is an entertainer, but in "red state" america, there are "dumb" people who listen to his rhetoric as gospel.. and this kind of
bs only fans the flames of right wing extremist behavior. I have absolutely no doubt of that.

...and if your single voice is drowned by insiped stupidity. How does one voice respond to a voice which is broadcasted as honorable faux truth to thousands. How does one balance truth? Is sending in an army like the US did in Iraq against a soverign leader the answer, should citizens arm themselves and restore the proper balance? Ideals are nice but don't really resolve the problem.

There are plenty of ways to be heard. You could find a grout (for instance the HRC) that has a large political voice. The opther way to use your voice is to get out and VOTE! The left has some people who go a little radical at times as well. Rush may go a little over board, but he is by no means the only one..

Rush Limbaugh, The GOP, and false belief systems all do the same thing: prey upon the weak minded.

but if you take away his right to voice his opinion then you are cutting away at essential rights and values. like him or not, he clearly isn't going anywhere!

how about your promote a liberal entertainer to counteract his effects? that might be a big more effective then just bitching about something we can't change!

i just dont understand why people listen to him as he seems to be filled with allot of hate for minorities. And what makes me question him morally even more is that he wants to buy a football team but yet he hates black people and black men are the majority of the star players. So he will use you to make more money but talk trash about your race when he feels like it..hmm i tell you this theory "white privilege" is a bitch.

If you would ever listen to him....instead of what Sharpton and Jesse Jackson say ABOUT him, you would be better equipped to make an informed, educated decision.

Here we go again.
First of all i dont listen to Sharpton or Jesse Jackson...another belief that white people think every black person does. In fact, these two do nothing but make things worst when it comes to racial divide. Your wrong.
hmm i wouldn't have form that opinion if i have never listened to his program...time and time again i have heard him make racial slurs about every minority in America. If you Youtube his shows you will hear it for yourself. He actually told a black woman on one program that in order for her to be a better woman she needs to put a bone in her nose.If you knew anything about racial advertising you would know what he was implying. Mr Limbaugh i believe like countless other white Americans and "yourself" live in this bubble. He believes in the Ideology of Oppression of anyone who doesnt look like him. So spare me with your comments about he is not a racist and etc when everyone knows he is. Because let me tell you...if you have never been discriminated against...then you dont know what it feels like or know what its like to be discriminated against. Again your a white male in America...your racial group will always have unearned privileges that make it impossible for you to be discriminated against so you have no idea what racism is and never will.. Case and point i was in the court room the other day, in my nice expensive suit sitting next to my boss. He is a lawyer and im his assitant and we were there to do arraignments and the court officer who is a white male came up to us and ask us if we were waiting for our lawyers. Situations like this happens every time because white people dont expect minorities to do good so spare me this. This is a free country and your free to believe and agree with him but he is wrong. Everyone knows that. And hey to prick your brain please read this article... "White Privilege: Unpacking the invisible Knapsack" by Peggy McIntosh as your obviously delusional.

HE IS NOT WORTH THE DISCUSSION. he´s an entertainer. His brand of entertainment has many problems, but we need to discuss it for what it is: entertainment. It is not serious political or social thought.

I agree with you about Al Sharpton and Jesse Jackson worsening the racial divide. They are not helping anyone by promoting their "victim" ideology. According to them, it is impossible for a black person to succeed in this country. I guess Clarence Thomas, and countless other successful black Americans didn't get that memo.

Ask the 17 white firefighters in New Haven, Connecticut about their "unearned privileges that make it impossible to be discriminated against".

And thanks for stereotyping all white Americans....you left out that we all look alike.

I don't know how you can even stand up with that huge chip on your shoulder.

Well i wouldn't say all., but most of us white people do look alike. Perhaps it's all the inbreeding

Why do you think the young man has a chip on his shoulder? Just because he is speaking from his experience?

Perhaps he has a "chip on his shoulder" because experience of living in America has given him one. Just because sometimes some minorities use the race card for every little issue, it doesn't invalidate the fact that its use can be sometimes justified.
