I think everyone here will tell you to get an iphone. It's like the de facto phone for all gays to have. icon_lol.gif

If you're not an iphone kinda guy, I think you should wait. Verizon is supposed to get at least 3 Android phones within the next 3 - 4 months.

If you have a specific need for Windows Mobile, then I think you should get the HTC Imagio. Forget the Samsung Omnia. It's at the end of its product life cycle. The Omnia 2 should be coming out soon.

I too am on Verizon. Originally I considered an Imagio, considering the streamlining that's ahead with Windows Mobile 6.5 and then next year with the all-encompassing (mobile, pc, etc) Windows 7. But I've decided to see what they offer with Android first. Rumor has it they plan to offer a version of the Hero. Let's hope they boost the processor power and memory. I'm skipping the Storm2, just as I skipped the Storm, until Blackberry rebuilds their OS and especially their browser.

You don't *have* to switch... you can always 'jailbreak' the iphone.

Android is a mobile platform launched by Google. It's pretty slick. It has tight integration with Google services of course. But it lacks a comprehensive app store. But if you don't care about apps, then it's a really decent smartphone.

If you don't like ATT, you an always jailbreak and unlock an iphone and use it on T-Mobile. You won't get 3G connectivity, since T-Mobile's 3G operates at a different frequency. But EDGE is fast enough for most online tasks.

I vote iPhone, but you'll probably have to wait a bit before it arrives on Verizon. I understand about not wanting to switch carriers, though. And I certainly would *not* advise "jailbreaking" an iPhone. While this will allow you to use the phone on a different (GSM) carrier, it also locks you out of the full iPhone experience, namely the App Store.

    This is Android:

Personally, I find Apple's offering far more appealing. The GUI is better and there are nearly 100,000 apps available in Apple's App Store, compared to a paltry few thousand for other platforms. Apple has huge momentum right now in the handheld market and offers the best product and experience by a mile.

Well.... it prevents you from using the app store but not the apps themselves. ....there are *other* ways to get them.... or so I read on various game development forums. I don't own one so....

True. But is it really worth it? The only other carrier that works is T-Mobile. Why void your warranty, risk the phone being "bricked" upon update, and not have access to the App Store? Sure, a handful of nerds may think it's fun to circumvent Apple's sandbox, but the vast majority of users aren't skilled enough (nor interested, I imagine) to make jailbreaking worthwhile. I've been an Apple user for 27 years. I'm very capable when it comes to Apple products and I wouldn't dream of jailbreaking my phone. There's really no incentive.

iPhone is the best product out there, PERIOD. But, AT&T has been very unreliable in the past few months. I have the 3Gs and it works well, but reception and delays with data is quite annoying.

    iPhone = yay!
    AT&T = nay!

RESULTS: wait to see if iPhone goes to Verizon.

I know a coworker with it who LOVES it but again network shortcomings rob it of the best possible experience.

I moved from Verizon to AT&T because of the iPhone. I do love my iPhone, but I do miss Verizon's service. Apple rumors are a dime a dozen, and there is plenty of back and forth whether Verizon might get the iPhone in the first quarter of '10. Apple usually makes iPhone announcements in June. So, who knows. I read a really good analysis about what it might mean for the iPhone to come to Verizon, and there seems to be good reason to think Verizon might experience the same overloads to its network that AT&T has experienced. We'll have to wait and see.

Have a Palm Pre and think it's great.

I especially love the multi-tasking ability that you can't find on the iphone. Not as many apps yet, but they will come...

I have the android phone and love it. Doesnt have as many apps but as far as the important ones go i have been able to find an android equivalent for the major ones.

and I dont know where people keep getting that they dont have an app store from they do have one. these two sites basically mirror every app available on the storefront:

    http://www.android.com/market/

    http://androidcommunity.com/forums/androidmarket.php

if i had the money Id probably still stick with android only because of the recent announcement by adobe to support flash on android platforms, something apple has yet to offer.
