Mormons are the new KKK. To compare themselves to Black people is SO WRONG on SO MANY LEVELS. I really hope some crunk black people loot that giant church in SLC, take it over, and make it the new NAACP center. Fucking Mormons don't deserve ANY such title that even HINTS of oppression or repression or misunderstanding. This truly pisses me off. This is just white people losing their grip and not being happy about it.

I'm not a Mormon, but I live among them. Having a degree in history, I've had to study the early history of their church. They were forced to leave a series of settlements because of their religion and the fact that by all accounts they prospered more than their neighbors until they arrived in the Salt Lake Valley and then they suffered the indignity of having the U.S. army perched on the rim of the valley to intimidate and keep them in line. That doesn't hint at oppression, repression or misunderstanding? "KKK", " SO WRONG on SO MANY LEVELS" yes, you are. You just showed how uneducated you are on the issue and Mormons in general. Maybe you should know a little more about the subject before expressing such "righteous indignation". Besides, don't the Mormons hold the same view as our President on gay marriage? What do you propose we do to the Whitehouse? What organization do you propose we install in the Whitehouse?

Oh geez. But what do you expect from people who follow a religion based on the "revelations" of a pedophile polygamist, his golden plates (that no one has ever seen) and his talking rock? Seriously, the stuff people believe! It's as bad as Scientology, only worse because the Mormons have way more $$$ and clout.

    Mormon. One "m" too many.

Black (or any race of physiological attributes) is not a choice.

    Gay is not a choice.

    Sex is not a choice.

    Height is not a choice.

Hair color is not a choice.

Any one of the above can be artificially changed through extrodinary means but the underlying base remains the same. You can't 'decide' to have different DNA and associated structure.

Mormon is a religion. You can choose your religion and change religions because it is a belief that is taught.

Everyone has been oppressed persecuted at one point in time. But nobody is the new fucking black. Nobody wants to trade places with blacks now, let alone from decades ago. Some people are trying to gather empathy for whatever reason, likely currying public sentiment in their favor for something or other. Whatever, it'll soon play itself out as silly.

Because Romans persecuted Christians, Christians can not be accused of persecuting.

And no, the Mormon church does not have the same view as the president.

White HouseHe supports full civil unions and federal rights for LGBT couples and opposes a constitutional ban on same-sex marriage.

How does that sound like what the Mormons are pushing for?

My point wasn't that anyone should presecute anyone, but people should know a little about where they wade into.
Really, that's why the Administration upholds the DOMA? and Why is the Dept of justice trying to get the Smelt Hammmer case dismissed?
And by the way most Mormons here in Utah have no problem with domestic unions.

Mormans are they news blacks...huh I did not know that they were the son and daughters of SLAVES!

When they have survived: being kidnapped, the fields, the whip, the tar, the feathers, the ropes, the fire hose, the bully clubs, and the dogs and the under-educatig of a race of people. Then maybe they can classify themselves are being "The New Blacks"!

I think I just may vomit!

NO... Black are born black, Mormons are made Mormons by other people. It a choice, deal with it. I rarely feel sympathy when people are discriminated for their religion by other religions.

You have a dress in history but apparently not in logical arguing. Mormons are comparing to how they are treated NOW, not historically over a hundred years ago. But still let's pretend we're not using logic here...Black people still had it FAR WORSE than Mormons on ANY given point in history up to now.

Your argument is thoughtful, but it's specious. Mormon's are pretending they are the abused minority when this is clearly false. You do not have to know the history of Mormons in order to figure out that what they are claiming is blatantly incorrect and offensive.

sxydrkhair saidI think Muslims are new black now. Mormon is probably the safest religion in the America now. Only people that dislike Mormons are gay people because the gay right and gay marriage.

You know I think thats very true. My dad is actually a mormon and my mother a catholic. I myself am a Roman Catholic. I really like mormons a lot better than most other christians usually. Sure I know they don't always agree with me on A LOT of things but truly if I had to say someone whom lived up to what I think a christian should... most of them hit the bar dead on and higher than expected. I like that. Sure bad history as to when it comes with reference to blacks and the whole polygamy thing is actually a bit more misunderstood than. The reasoning in the church's history makes a lot of sense I think. The asshats that practice it evens till today are not Latter Day Saints (LDS) mormons but rather are RLDS or FLDS. BIG DIFFERENCE from LDS. those are the nut jobs I think this article is referring to. I myself am not mormon but considering I live with one that is in the priesthood I would be more than happy to answer questions or get them from him. One other thing, anyone in the mormon church that performs a role in the church as a president, priest etc.. they do not receive any money from the church. i think that is very cool. They all have jobs like everyone else. anyways... cheerio. =D

Mormons got their bad rap from neighboring religions (and the US Government) because of polygamy & pedophilia. If their "ideas" worked for the good of mankind, bringing peace to more than just white males, I'd give a rat's ass about them.

What year was it, exactly, that blacks were even allowed to be members of their church? Mark of Cain bullshit, if I recall.

And so what if Obama is weak on DOMA and DADT? Nothing stopping me from giving both Obama and LDS an ear-toasting .

In the words of Dan Savage: "How many Mormons were lynched after Prop 8? How many Mormon temples were firebombed?"

Further, the Mormons are getting a negative reactions after they moved to take away a civil right already granted by the state (most recently, by the courts, though the legislature had twice passed marriage equality legislation. Arnold vetoed it both times, saying it should be decided by either the courts or by a statewide referendum. That largely invalidates the "laws should be passed by the legislature, not the courts" argument.). Blacks, on the other hand, were the recipients of having their civil rights finally legally recognized. Not even remotely similar.

Mormons have indeed been historically persecuted in the US; sometimes due to religious intolerance, sometimes due to polygamy and that ridiculously young age for marriage. But to compare the current treatment of Mormons to the treatment of Blacks in the general Jim Crow era and immediately after is just asinine.
