"I don't do interracial marriages because I don't want to put children in a situation they didn't bring on themselves," [Justice of the Peace] Bardwell said. "In my heart, I feel the children will later suffer."

If he does an interracial marriage for one couple, he must do the same for all, he said.

"I try to treat everyone equally," he said.

I think he means he discriminates against every interracial couple equally.

I wonder what proposition number Louisiana will use when they try to remove the right of interracial couples to marry.

If you weren't in an interracial relationship, this guy would marry you and your partner. icon_biggrin.gif

Every single person in LA is in complete agreement with this asshole. Also everybody is in the KKK. The ENTIRE state is given to broad unintelligent overgeneralization and glib thoughtless bigotry.

Not every single person. I believe Blacks have trouble joining the KKK, and Louisiana has a large Black population. Plus I doubt most Blacks would agree with this JP.

So I understand your sarcasism. We actually know it is merely most of the WHITES in Louisiana who think and vote this way, which is a matter of public record. As further evidenced by this JP holding his office through public election in Hammond, a place I've visited many times.

Knowing that area, none of this surprises me, entirely par for the course there. Still, an interesting anomaly compared to the rest of the US outside Louisiana, wouldn't you agree?

    Other interracial people ?
I think having two interracial people marry doesn't count ?
They both cancel out their interracial-ness. Thus becoming...
    "other." icon_rolleyes.gif

What he leaves out is that they enter and exit through the
servants entrance. He has more than one bathroom. So he
allows them to use the one out back behind the house.
They come to his house to cook and clean. Occasionally
he will preside over their " wedding ceremonies."
But he feels dirty afterwards and unloyal to his klan.
So later that night he and his buddies go out burn a cross on the
    newly weds lawn.

    AND .....!

They are expected to still show up at his house on time for work the next day.

I read this first thing this morning when I woke up. Totally disgusting This is 2009- not 1959! and this was an interracial Straight couple. Interracial relationships have been legal- like it or not- since 1968?

I happen to be in an interracial gay relationship, we've been together for 3 years and it get's stronger every day. We worry about discrimination, but so far it has not happened to us... at least not where we live now. I was virtually driven out of Ocala when a skinhead I worked with found out I was gay and dating a black man. It was just too much for him to handle and he blamed me for something I didn't do and I got fired.

It's scary when you think about it. There are people like this justice everywhere. Recently, an ex KKK grand dragon got elected to city government in Lake Wales, Fl- a place I once lived near.

Someday Blu and I want to take road trips around the country. Yet I wonder what we are going to run into out there?

I better keep working out. Learn martial arts. And be ready to kick some racist homophobic ass when the time comes.

What, do you just like having a target on your back? Interracial AND gay? What the hell! Some people are just asking for it.

Seriously, though, I'm starting a pool. I'm putting my chip on the 13-month spot saying this justice of the peace gets caught with a black prostitute.

Watching this fool defend himself can only help bring to light, for many, the baseless reasoning behind gay marriage opposition. For that reason I'm almost glad he's out there.

I believe that will be true, for many as you say. At the same time, it will also harden the opposition of Republican right-wingers to all social advances.

What puzzles me even more than Republican support for these attitudes, is those here on RJ who endorse the Republican Party, which refuses to condemn such behavior. The response will be that "I only support Republican economic policy" (which in fact brought the US to near depression), or "I only support Republican flag-waving military views."

Views which got us into 2 disastrous wars, and that reduced funding for disabled veterans like myself, despite the false claims that Republicans support our troops. Truth is, Republicans support defense contractors, not those who defend our country in uniform, or who expected our country would take care of us after we took off our uniforms because of disability.

Forget the FOX talking heads and Rush Limbaugh; ask the veterans who found their VA services slashed during the Bush years, when Republicans also controlled Congress. I judge by results, not by rhetoric. Veterans were harmed by Republicans, not helped.

And watch how many Republicans condemn this JP, versus how many Democrats. Republicans have made themselves the enemies of the people, the champions of the values of the Old South, as this JP shows us. The sooner bigoted Republicans are driven from our political life the better.
