I'm hoping for some advice on getting a morning energy boost. I hit the gym for about 90 minutes every weekday morning before I go to work. I am up by 7, have a small cup of coffee, and am in the gym by 8 splitting my workout between moderate weight training and cardio. But I'm often hungry when I get up -- I don't eat anything before my workout because when I do I feel sick or have cramps when my workout gets intense. I started trying to have a Cliff Bar but I don't think that even that digests enough for me, I still get cramps and it weighs me down.

Can anybody give me any tips that work for you if you've had a similar schedule? Should I be getting up earlier so I can eat earlier? If so, what should I eat.

    Thanks for any input.

Sure. I follow a similar schedule. You gotta have something in the tank. Especially after not eating for several hours. Eat a light meal. This means a small to medium sized bowl of cereal or a couple servings of yogurt. I follow this up with coffee or some other caffeinated beverage. Then within 20 minutes or less I am working out. Find the right balance. Personally I can jump right into weight lifting no problem. But if you still have trouble my advice would be to save the most strenuous portions of you workout regime til after you have gotten the ball rolling. Some athletes get by with tea and a piece of fruit but i get too hungry eating that light. When you are focusing in the gym you don't want to be derailed with hunger pangs or low energy.
