It's been a long time coming, and I knew the day of reckoning was approaching. I didn't, however, expect it to happen today.

I got an email from my mom this morning just seeing how everything was going. I replied, telling her that yesterday I just relaxed and hung out with my roommate since he took the day off. Keep in mind I've lived with him for about 3 years now and he is also gay, which my parents knew.

My mom told me what she and my dad did this weekend, then finished with asking if my roommate and I were a couple. I was a little taken aback. I laughed because no way are my roommate even remotely together. We're just good friends.

So, I called all my friends and told them that this was it. This was my opening to finally telling them about not only me being gay, but having a boyfriend. So, I typed out the email and sat there for about 20 minutes with the cursor over the send button. I talked to my best friend on the phone and he just told me to "do it!".

So I did. My mom replied by saying that she and my dad always knew deep down and have already talked about how it makes no difference to them. I'm their son and I could never embarrass or disappoint them and all they want for me is to be happy and to be who I am.

Finally. I no longer have to tell half truths or keep that part of my life a secret. It's such a relief.

I do feel great. But it's a weird feeling. It almost feels like a new life has dawned today and I don't know what to expect...

I just told my brother and he said he and my sister in law always knew too and they don't care either.

What the hell? I thought I had everyone fooled icon_smile.gif

It is a weird feeling....both to have to announce such a thing and cuz you have had to hold it back

congratulations to you....and to your parents!

oh and a third reason it is kinda weird with an experience like yours....cuz there is none of the potential drama ... icon_wink.gif ... it's done and over with and that's it.

    Congratulations man!

It's a strange feeling of relief to come out to your family (I just did last weekend, actually!)

My family didn't quite expect it, but my mom knew. Moms always know because its in their DNA icon_smile.gif

That is awesome to hear! I am "2 yrs old" since the experience of telling my family (including my then-wife and kids) and it is the most liberating experience ever - hardest experience - but liberating as well.
Good luck on your next phase of your life I'm sure there are plenty of guys here with a good ear if you need to talk - including me! You're awesome!

    Congratulations!

When I finally came out to my parents (nearly 20 years ago now) my dad's response was simply, "I guess I'll have a son-in-law instead of a daughter-in-law".

You gotta love an easy coming out story!

    Again, congratulations!

That is awesome and the hardest part is over with and done. I am glad that you had a great experience with your family. It is truely a wonderful thing to be comfortable in your own skin.

I just recently came out to my family as well. It was the most difficult thing I have ever done. My parents both love and accept me for who I am. It does feel like I have a "new" life and I can now move forward. My parents are trying to catch up and the realization that they have a gay son is sinking in. I have realized it is a process for them as well.

Also, congrats on having a love in your life. I just recently started dating a wonderful man. So things are falling into place. Very liberating.

I am very happy for you! Congratulations!! icon_biggrin.gif

WOW, so great! Bravo both to you and to your parents!

I learned rather late in life that my parents always knew I was gay, too, but we never discussed it. I wish we had before they died, and I envy you that. What a fortunate guy you are!

Congratulations all. It reminds me of that strange feeling when I came out. So many lies and in the end no one really cared. It's great that you're out!

Thank you, everyone for the encouraging words. It's so great. I don't even think it's sunk in for me yet. I mean finally, no more half truths and dodging questions.

I can finally tell them I'm with my boyfriend when I go places. AND...they can meet him. Such a dizzying assortment of feelings right now.

So happy everything worked out for you. I was scared when I came out to my family, but when I did they just showered me with love and acceptance.

Kudos to your family for being so accepting.
