So I'm working on my advertising portfolio, and I'm trying to think of some speculative clients that have terrible advertising right now. Any suggestions for brands that could use some work would be appreciated.

Note: I'm not actually trying to land anyone as a client...this is just for my portfolio while looking for an entry-level copywriting job at an agency. icon_biggrin.gif

Swiffer's whole ad campaign needs to GO. I also get sick of so many advertisers using music tracks from the 60's to 80's... I swear the other night it sounded like I had the radio on and that the tuner was broken.

Seriously - I love the funny commercials or the ones that are well thought out. One that sticks with me is from the 1990's and was for a product called "Cappio" that used the instrumental track of One Mint Julep by Ray Charles. Some animated characters danced to it and drank the stuff - then the tag line "Cappio... the Thrill is the Chill"... Great, entertaining ad.

I'm not sure what the situation in the US is, but if you have difficulty in finding a job I suggest that you offer your services on a part-time basis.

Most companies are reluctant to put on full-time employees but will employ a junior in for three days a week just to do all the copy jobs they don't want to do - and that's how you get your start. It will soon become full-time and then you're set. You may have to work a couple of jobs for a while to earn a decent income. I worked in retail while employed by an agency 3 days a week until it became full-time gig a few months later.

how about Got Milk? it's HORRIBLE commercial. an ugly guy must depends on milk to play guitar, and wears all white skin tights. the whole thing is so meaningless, not really about milk at all.

here's the one i really like. it's simple message for Got Milk, no complication.

A lot of the pills being marketed today are simply horrible because of all the disclaimers they have to throw in to the copy.

And then there's the Acid Reflux drug Aciphex (pronounced Ass Effex). WTF were they thinking?!

I was glad to see that Pepto Bismol finally ended the commercials where, in an effort to remind the viewer that Pepto Bismol can help with diarrhea, people in the commercial grabbed their asses. I am sorry, we all know we get the runs, but do we really need that visual reminder???
