I'm in New Orleans for a few days for a conference (10/24-27). Not a huge amount of time but I was wondering if anyone had suggestions for must-see sights in the city. Good food and jazz/blue recommendations would be highly appreciated. Any particular gay-friendly places come to anyone's mind? Thanks

I have visited New Orleans in 1978 whilst backpacking the USA.
Visit the French Quarter. In it there is no end of evening entertainment venues. Bourbon Street is the main street to explore. Opposite "The House of the Rising Sun" (an all-night gambling house) there was this place where men dress up as girls to dance at stage.
OK, all this was 31 years ago, but I doubt that the French Quarter has changed much, even surviving the hurricane a couple of years ago.

Quiet a few places in the Quarter to explore and have fun. Check out the streets outlining Bourbon for good restaurants. Lafayette Square also has some interesting places, a few blocks up from the Quarter. And like in all cities, be aware of your surroundings at night. It is a lovely city and I enjoyed my stay there in September.
