Is It Me? Or is ABC's Modern Family Really Offensive?

I've never watched this show before but my Mother likes it and told me to watch
and I found the gay couple completely stereotyped in everyway

In the one episode I saw they were disco dancing swishy queens

I dunno ... I'm usually forgiving with these things but this was the worst

Anybody agree with me? Or No....

Eh, it's a sit-com stereotypes are abound in the genre. My friends and I caught it last night and roared through most of it.

or are you just offended that they are unattractive?

i doubt this show would be getting so much heat if these were two thin attractive gay guys ie Will & Grace

watch a sitcom with a black character, an Indian character, an asian character, etc etc. watch british and australian humor, much more crass about portraying stereotypes as well.

i think this show is hilarious, especially the gay guys

I don't think it's offensive, per se. But I do think it's a little one dimensional. Cameron and Mitchell do represent some gay men. But not all, of course.

Since the series revolves around this one family clan, I don't think we'll see much variety in what we see.

no interest in the show at all

I love Sofia Vergara and would switch for her. She is Colombian and so latina.

It can be funny. And they off-set them being disco queens with the fact that one of them was a line-backer in college and loves football. The one with the red hair is that neurotic, uptight gay guy that gets on my nerves.

I love the show. It pokes fun of stereotypes just like Family Guy and Simpsons. Besides, if you can't laugh at yourself....well, you are boring.

I for one found the Gay characters stereotyped horribly.
It sends a very bad message to main stream america, and just enforces the ideas within RWcN (Right Wing christian Nazi), ranks of what We are like.
Personally I wouldn't want to be, nor would I be, around with guys whom act like that.
Cheers,
Keith

Oh, for the love of Pete, Lord Ffuffington. Does everyone on the planet have to conform to your ideas of what people should be like? Really?

Would be nice. But no, not at all. The OP asked for opinions. That's what I gave. I found the show to be offensive.
And most of you on this site find me offensive. That point is made quite clear by the hate emails I get sent for my posts to the forums. Oh well, such as life.
Cheers,
Keith

It's exaggerated stereotypes (ultra sexy latina, anal retentive or queeny gay man, dad that can't let go of his younger years, etc. and etc.)....we need to make fun of ourselves since we are also part of mainstream America. You will never find a comedy or drama that portrays the accurate diversity that makes up gay men.

I think this show does a pretty entertaining job in sending the message: We should not take ourselves so seriously, regardless of your family or yourself! I like the show alot and think it's a pretty bold and funny comedy!
I loved this past Wednesday where the Onstar lady thought the guy in the background screaming was a woman!!! Super freakin' funny...let's relax already!

Jeez will you two give it a rest already....

Admittedly I did chuckle at the lord fluffington reference but do you not have anything better to do than stalk him from thread to thread

Anyway the point i was originally going to make.... which is thank god gays can't biologically procreate because that would be one butt ugly ginger child with huge ears, nose and absolutely no neck

are you out of the closet providing a better image of a gay man? the stereotypes are usually the ones who are visible in society

A sitcom that doesn't have any com in it.

It is as boring as all get out.

It's about as boring as two lesbos munching on each other's .... well you get the idea
