So I'm watching the USS New York on CNN. The bow of the ship contains steel that was salvaged from the World Trade Center. It will be commissioned on Saturday. It's crest read's "Never Forget". Having lost someone at the WTC I am personally touched by this.

Forget the ship. The black guy on the left has a nicely shaped ass. High and upstanding. I would tap that

As a Navy man, myself, I'm offended that some fucking genius would even consider taking the remains of the WTC and forging them into a warship. Honestly. What kind of message does this send? It's weak. This is nothing to be proud of ... typical American stupidity.

wow... that wasn't any response I expected. I think serves a good reminder to any asshat out there that you can't screw with us and expect us to back down. Screw them and the horse they ride in on.

I am with Tapper. It is a symbol of everything that is wrong with our foreign policy.

If the ship sinks or gets attacked, it will be even more tragic for 9/11. They should have used it to build playgrounds or something.

    Really?

I want you to think long and hard about what you wrote here.

I've heard of making lemonade out of lemons, but this brilliant marketing move (sarcasm intended) by the U.S. govt. on the behalf of the American people, and with U.S. tax dollars, reeks of half-baked American pride, over-inflated ego and stupidity.

I'm calling it as I see it. This isn't anything the American people should be proud of. I know that the friends I lost on 9/11 wouldn't have bought into this for a minute. It dishonors the fallen, and continues to help corrode the good reputation the United States of America ... the little it has left.

That's right, all you asshats! Attack us and we'll go attack some country, not yours, but you better believe we'll attack someone!

100% agreement. Symbolically, only peaceful use is acceptable.

Just as long as they aren't some landlocked country, like Afghanistan. But you better watch your step, Iceland. You have all that coast and no where to hide.

I wanna know how you or rather what makes you say that? I thought it was a great way to honor the fallen. I am very proud to know that at least something stands out of that steel that was used and once stood as an American icon that I was proud to say my fiance worked at. I sure as hell beats the usual thought in that runs in the back of my mind: "Is today the day that I will get the call that they found Michael or is it another day that he might still be lost in that mess at Fresh Kills?" I like it. I think its about time something positive came out of something so evil. I've always had great pride in our Military and I feel even more pride now. This is just MHO. Maybe the pseudo patriotism that exist today and that came about after 9-11 is what you are referring and maybe that is the case... sorry but I have been part of that crowd.

Nice one ass since It is going to be used to transport troops and thats why you have helicopters and such to transport goods and personnel or maybe you missed that or didn't the articles at all.

Yeah Iraq was not something I supported btw. Afghanistan.. fuck 'em. The ship is actually designed to transport sailors to different locations around the world and the design of the haul is so that it can be more stealth-like and be less likely to be detected by radar.

I'll dumb it down for you. I'll use a logical fallacy. Ready? Here it goes

Turning the WTC steel into a more conventional memorial is appropriate; using it for a warship that may sail into harm's way seems questionable to me. And if it's sunk in action or by terrorist act, do we raise it and recycle it yet again? And would its destruction traumatize us all once more, and wound our pride even further?

Better, I think, had the metal found a safe & permanent home in some monument, perhaps in Washington, as has been planned for Ground Zero.

I personally I have not been able to get myself to make the trip to NYC yet even after all these years. It makes too much of a mess in my mind. I know once then finish the Freedom Tower or the 9-11 memorial I will go. Maybe sooner... my friend and I have been talking really really crazy lately about taking a day trip New Years Eve till New Years Day without getting a hotel... just going down partying our asses off and doing a little sightseeing and then sleeping on the return flight back home. Sounds like it will no doubt be a fucking blast but she's kind of forcing me to make a stop at ground zero. She says it's time to move on and let go that its what Mike would want. I know she's right but its hard enough already just thinking about it.. i can't imagine doing it.
