I am all of the above. Sometimes I feel out of place here. With all the emphasize on looking good, hard muscle, and all this young stuff. Stuff about men of the week, hottest guy and etc. But Real Jock is a good place to socialize and getting to know other gay men from all over the world. It is fun , educational, and informative.

For those guys in my categories, please share your thought.

lol, zakariahzol, In another topic we mentioned taking nude pictures of ourselves and terrorizing people with them.

..but then we realized it would give everyone permanent psychological damage.

"...Real Jock is a good place to socialize and getting to know other gay men from all over the world. It is fun , educational, and informative."

...and that's why a lot of guys are here.

If we didn't have each other - I wouldn't really know any gay guys. I spoke to Doug (meninlove) yesterday and it was like water in the desert.

It might be a lot harder to win someone over online with your charisma and sparkling personality, but that just means it takes some patience and perhaps thick skin.

I'm pleased the RJ has such a wide variety of shapes, ages, and fitness levels. I see absolutely no problem with it whatsoever. As a matter of fact I find the information, advice and words of a large number of these so-called "un-RJ" people to be a wonderful addition and voice in an otherwise chaotic and sometimes narcissistic forum.

What I DO have an issue with however is the prattling morons who spout nothing but negative comments and prattle on about non-issues and then proceed to take offense when someone doesn't necessarily agree. It's so much of a turn off that, in one case, when I see this person make a comment I usually leave the forum without bothering to read ... knowing full well that a "flame war" has been instigated (and no, I'm not talking about Chucky...he's actually got some logic behind his madness...:wink

I feel comforted by others however (for example meninlove) when I read their words of encouragement and advice and I have great affection for various others (young/old, fit/unfit) because of their sensitivity, empathy and pathos....also their twisted humour (case in point, Lostboy)

I am not twisted.

Never heard such insults. (BTW "ignore their posts"is such a great feature.. it has improved RJ no end to blank out some people and their idiot ramblings)

Yes, I agree. I have had a real love/hate relationship with RJ ever since I discovered this site precisely because of what you are describing. If there was another site like RJ that was just for us 40+ guys, that maybe had just the more serious stuff from RJ and left out all the body image drama, the dating drama and stuff about Lady GaGa and Chris Evans vs Channing Tatum, then I would gladly go over to that site and leave RJ to the younguns with the 28-inch waistlines. But I just LOVE reading the contributions that jprichva, McGay, Guerillasodomite, Tapper, Celticmuscle, you and others make in the more intelligent forum topics. It's one of the highlights of my day.

Everyone has something to contribute in their own way. That is what makes this site so interesting. Many different perspectives, ideas, personalities, backgrounds, fitness levels, etc. If you keep an open mind, you can learn a lot from other people. This site is not about how hot, young, and goodlooking you are. It's more about learning and contributing information in an open social setting that benefits everyone.
Nov 04, 2009 2:18 PM GMT
well there are tons of sites like beautifulpeople.com where only goodlooking people are allowed access if they're voted attractive enough by existing members.
Charming right?

I'd be surprised if there isn't a gay version of such, that people could turn to if they get too unhappy with, or think they're too hot for RJ.

I like the diversity, it makes me feel comfortable and welcome. I like hearing from the younger(ah memories) and the older. I think we all have something valid to contribute.

I think it is very appropriate that this site is called "Real Jock". Most members here are more "real" than any website I belong to.

I am very thankful that the majority of posts and threads are not incredibly crude and profane.

So......welcome! I don't think anyone has called you out and that you should't be here? Claim some space, put a stake down, you're one of us now. one of us, one of us, one of us.........mwhahahahaha!

Presumably the unifying theme behind people joining and/or participating on Realjock.com is fitness. That is not to suggest that anything else is out of place, but that the fitness aspect (along with the gay) is core.

If one is not interested in fitness and merely looking for an online community in which to participate, RJ fulfills that as well, via the email capabilities, the chat, the forums. As the site places no restrictions on who can join and/or participate, the question of the OP makes little sense beyond that those feelings are what the OP is bringing to the experience and thus getting from it.

RJ being a fitness oriented website is going to largely attract/draw from a certain segment of PEOPLE who are fit. People who have nice bodies and live a certain way with certain ideas about diet, exercise, so on and so on. Does that automatically exclude others? No it doesn't. Individuals might feel it does or want it to, but alas they are not a god and cannot make that so.

If one does not have the 'perfect body' and is 'not so good looking,' the key is to realize 1. you are perfectly fine to participate here; 2. some people might not like that you do; and 3. who cares what they think.

Just enjoy the site as you like and stop worrying about what someone else wants.

I enjoy this site because of it's difference. Everyone feels welcome and can share advice or get advice on what to do to stay healthy. Also the other topics gives us a voice to question society and who we are.

I want to thank all who have commented, given advice, or just said "hello".

The quality of the men on Realjock is unmatched by another site. The nice bodies are a bonus IMHO.

The great thing about the mix of guys on this site is that WE represent the real world. All of us have lumps in places that we do not want to. This is a reality of life. For me, RJ is a reminder to me that we are all guys who have feelings, interests, and soul. RJ site allows more of us to connect with each other than we would have otherwise!
Nov 04, 2009 4:52 PM GMT
What I like about this site is that it shows that one can have a great body, and at the same time have something to say.

It also gives us the opportunity to see that even guys who we consider "perfect" aren't that, and that they suffer the same insecurities about life like we all do.

When I first joined the site, I thought I wouldn't have fit in because I don't have the ideal muscular body. So what? There's a lot of really cool guys who are so much more than a great body.

Yeah, bigmuslce.com is vapid. The only contacts I ever got there while I had a profile was "hook up" booty calls.

Bigmusclebears.com is much better.

Only way to win my heart

It's unfair to say that all supremely pretty gay men are narcissistic, shallow and kind of downright bad people, but ya know, I've met way too many physically gorgeous assholes. On the flipside, I've met so many men who don't physically look like magazine covers, but damn, they're the only ones who I can say are truly, truly beautiful.

I love the diversity of men on RJ.
Fitness and health (mental and physical) are the underlying threads of the site. I love being able to talk to men who are younger and older than myself.
I see men on here that I will be lucky to be half the man of when I'm into my 40's & 50's... which is just around the corner. I don't have that perspective in my day to day life.
The wonderful cross section of community here is inclusive and safe. My buddy list reflects the men I enjoy seeing online and reading about. My (very short) "Hot List" (ages 22-49) is comprised of men who I think are exceptional humans that have made me think and reassess my own way of being. Thank you for being you and sharing what you share of yourself... all of you.

I´m not a jock... I can´t catch or throw.

There are many people who look the part who are stupid and would be best served by not ever speaking or posting, and likewise some guys who aren´t the cover models who are great value.

And there is Ciarsolo7 who I want to have my children.

One of my favorite expressions in the whole wide world, and it applies in so many circumstances, is:

You laugh because I'm different, I laugh because you're all the same.

I dunno, I like physical ''imperfections'' in people. The whole smooth muscle guys doesn't do anything for me. I work parttime in the fashion industry where they are everywhere, yet they jst aint my thing! People think its unusual that i would go for someone less phyiscally perfect, but hey!

Well I must say first who doesn't enjoy looking at a sexy ass dude...but as Im getting older Im realizing its not all about that. Most of the time I can handle chatting with someone real and straight to the point. I really like this site because not only does it have a lot to say about a lot of things but it motivate me to stay in shape..now I may not look like the next man but I can atleast take matters into my own hands and try to stay healthy. So this site to me is for everyone the young and the old...meek and the bold...the shy and the shitty...everyone should be welcome huh....thats would I think

Very true in your opening. I can remember when it first started and how it was promoted for the fitness oriented gay man. It says it under the logo "Gay fitness, Health and life". Notice fitness first but then life closes it, thats anyone. So yeah anyone are and should be welcome but the core will always be athletics and fitness. Both sides need to remember both.

I guess I'm young-ish, but I haven't found much ageism on this site. In fact, aside from the occasional femme-bashing, I have found RJ to be an extremely welcoming site. There are few personal attacks, you can have a good discussion, and the majority of people who post in the forums are smart, well-informed and engaged in their life/community/country. That's rare on almost any online forum.

Realjock is about lifestyle and healthy attitudes about your body and also your mind

It's not about being perfect and gorgeous
we're here because we want to better ourselves
not for some karmic stroking

From the perspective of a guy who lives in the UK this is an amazing site. We do not have anything like it over here. Here are some things which are so good about it:

It does have a wide range of guys as members - its diversity is a strength

It is gay but guys here have a wide range of interests. The forums demonstrate that

Guys on here are very positive ( there are just a few whingers) in their outlook. You guys seem full of life and fitness seems to be just one way in which you express that

The wide age range is, I believe, mutually inspirational. It is a huge encouragement that there are so many younger guys looking good and feeling great and who take fitness seriously - heavens knows we need it in the Western world. Some of you have been kind enough to say that you find some of us old guys an encouragement too.

Please keep the diversity of the site while maintaining a focus on fitness within a broad range of interests.

Never criticize the coffee - for you may be old and weak yourself someday.

OMG, may I give a summery ???

bla bla bla "sad" bla bla bla "pathetic" bla bla bla "OMG I'm sooooo low on my self" bla bla bla bla bla bla bla bla

I think that does it yes?

who gives a hoot, if you get something from this site and it inspires you even to just eat right or do something good for your self and your body then who gives a piddy winkle!

zakariahzol said...For those guys in my categories, please share your thought.

You & I have shared many happy experiences about motorcycling. This is another experience I can share with you.

The guys here know that I'm not young, instead ugly, out of shape, and very much older than you are. No one has ever criticized me for it. The worst I would get were some slams about having a red scooter as my main photo.

You are not out of place on RJ. On the contrary, I & others here value your perspective from another country besides the US, where most of us are, and also the things you contribute as a person. You have taught me a great deal, and please forgive me if I haven't thanked you for that before.

Yes, this is a place where youth & muscles are valued. But can I not look around the store at all the lovely pastries & treats without being a baker myself? LOL!

RJ has become my favorite online site, because these are good guys, who let me vent every now & then. And who are on balance actually smarter and more educated than on any gay site I have known, despite this being about gay fitness, the opposite of what you might expect.

You stay here, Mr. zakariahzol, or else I will be very displeased!
