Overreaction?? HOW DO YOU RESPOND TO AN RJ MEMBER WHO IS SMOKING IN HIS MAIN PIC?

Well I have to say this is a new one..... an RJ member who is smoking in his main pic.

Does it matter? I noticed the gentleman is from Paraguay in S. America..
Perhaps the view on smoking in that country is different or perhaps he
doesn't realize the paradox of having a pic like that on RJ.

I would never have noticed, but he had checked out my profile and I noticed the pic...so am I overreacting? I just thought it was odd.

Americans have gone batshit crazy over smoking in the decade or so. I smoke. And while I don't find it laudable, it has become so demonized that complete strangers feel comfortable telling me to quit, or blaming me and other smokers for the ills of the world.

In that environment, I'm not surprised you find a picture of someone smoking surprising.

how to react?

Report him to Chris and suggest that his profile is BURNT, not just banned, and then that he too be burnt for being a heretic. I mean, young impressionable twinks might see that picture and then what would happen?

Then to calm down, watch some wholesome american culture approved DVD, like Terminator, or the Silence of the Lambs and have a protein shake.

Who cares? Americans are so crazy about smoking; I mean in some places in Asia you can still smoke in your oncologist's office. Other cultures are not so afraid of smoking.

Interesting- I should put up a picture of me doing a line of cocaine. I wonder if that would offend anyone?

I would just hope it's not a menthol cigarette. They're disgusting!

OMG

Was he lifting weights at the same time?

If so, I hope he wiped the ash off the bench when he left.

ps. Yes you're over-reacting. I am much more concerned at those posters that include pcitures on their own children on their profiles, is that even legal?

How did I respond? With piqued interest, excited to think that maybe RJ had changed its stance on pornographic imagery.

Imagine my disappointment when he was only smoking a cigarette. How disappointing.

But yeah...as a culture, we (the US, at least) have moved to stigmatize smoking. Personally, I have no problem with somebody else polluting their body, so long as I don't have to smell it. That philosophy applies to fish tacos and vagina, too.

I have a different take on smoking and am more in the anti-smoking camp because of the evidence that second-hand smoke is dangerous for those around the smoker. My father used to smoke a pipe in the car during Minnesota winters. We all had to breathe that in. I may maintain a friendship with a smoker, but I don't think I could tolerate smoking in a partner or anyone I would live with. I don't have a particularly strong reaction to a pic of an RJ member smoking other than the fact that it is a deal killer for me.

It's just a cue to me to move along to the next profile.

Ugh, I had two smokers in the house on saturday - they didn't smoke here, but it took four days to get the smell out of the house.

BTW: Before the Athens olympics, by random chance I shared a hotel suite with some of the Cuban team. They all smoked cigars after dinner, and during team meetings.

Smoking is so nasty.

I rolled my eyes when I saw this.

Then I read the sentence again and giggled to myself quietly.

I'm with HndsmKansan on this one.

It looks totally out of place for someone to be smoking on a fitness site, just it would look out of place if they were gorging themselves on jelly doughnuts. I come here to see pics of fit guys doing healthy things, not self-destructive things.

And those of you equating anti-smoking sentiment with some kind of tree-hugging-vegan-flower-child philosophy, get a life! Smoking is so 1950s...

Oh no's really ????? someone was smoking ??????

OMG

Although, I'd like to point out.... a lot of party people take drugs too I bet a lot of *coughs* "jocks" on RJ are "party people"

not of course to say that anyone here is, I mean, heavens forbid!

HMMMM - I still remember the aroma of cigar smoke my father filled the room with during happy occasions - such as Christmas afternoon while I was playing with my new toys, or when I was the center of attention when visitors arrived at our house.
Bygone days. But such happy memories rush back whenever I smell cigar smoke to this day.
And for us to show snapshots of our children on Realjock, or any other website - for my wife it's a no-no. She only allowed one shot - of my second daughter a few months after she was born - and that's it, no more.

Relax, and don't prejudge. Maybe it's marijuana, which I'm sure you would approve, and not evil tobacco at all. Don't jump to conclusions.

I'm not prejudging anything. I'm making a comment on a main picture on RJ. I think its a little odd..... as I would a dude smoking a joint.

Why is it pre-judging and not judging a person fairly on his actions?

I'd say that the guy with a pic on RJ showing a cigarette in his mouth is demonstrating clearly that he has no clue about appropriateness.
