Some Yankees Memories

I assume most RJers in the US know that the Yankees won the baseball World Series last night (Wed). I don't follow baseball much, but the win is still special and nostalgic to me.

In the mid-1950s my father had a box seat near First Base in the old Yankees Stadium. He so wanted me to be interested in baseball, tried to get me to play it. I never did successfully, having undiagnosed near-sightnedness until I was nearly 9, by which time I had become totally disenchanted with always striking out in my Farm League team.

But my father still dressed me up in a Yankees jacket & hat, and took me to their games. I met all the stars of that era: Yogi Bera many times (who knew my father personally, we met him many times in other social settings), Mickey Mantle, all of them.

And sometimes during the game, since my father's box was at First Base and near the Yankee dugout, I'd be stood up on top of it, all the fans cheering, as team members came out to greet me and shake my hand. I hardly understood any of it, and I was a bit embarrassed, but I could see my father's pride.

Good memories, and I still root for the Yankees. Glad they won. icon_biggrin.gif

It was Game 5 this year. The Yankees were threatening, having 2 or 3 people on base (wasn't that detailed of a memory).
Alex Rodriguez is up at the plate.

Big swing of the bat - Strike 1
Another big swing of the bat - Strkie 2
He shys away from the next one
Finally, you see him clearly focused on the ball, but let's it go by - Strike 3

    Yeah, wonderful memories!
