Today in Philadelphia, I directed traffic with the help of my cousin Brandon and this random guy Seth. I called 911 five times about this broken traffic light. 40 minutes went by before someone fixed the light. Note that the cop car in the end of this video decided it wasn't important-- we were there for half an hour directing traffic after he left. After a woman with her baby carriage almost got killed, we decided to ignore the orders from the 911 operator to stop what we were doing. She said we could be sued if someone were hurt. Ummmm.... ????

    PHILADELPHIA PHAIL!

Here are both of the short videos I shot with my cell phone camera.

40 minutes? Wow. If there were an accident, I would hold the city responsible.
I would think if the lights were malfunctioning like they were in your video, you would have to stop as if there were STOP signs. But that wouldn't work well if it is a busy intersection, hence the use of traffic signals.

On an unrelated note, your cell phone camera is very good! Excellent quality. Not something I would have expected a cell phone to produce!

I've done better: YouTube, Facebook, and the local news in Philly.

Philadelphia traffic has been insane since the Septa Strike. I'm really hoping they settle on an agreement between Nutter, Rendel and the Union because its getting a little ridiculous out there. Thank God Temple U has a shuttle or else I'd never get to class and have to deal with shit like that. The other day I was walking and some chick just straight up walked into oncoming traffic without even looking.

I was in Philly for the last three days-- and I spent what seemed like three years in the car. I was staying with a friend in University City and commuting to rehearsals at the Kimmel Center... and it was about 35 minutes each time. On top of that, we had to pay for parking downtown... uggh.

Why the fuck do SEPTA workers think they should make more than teachers? Fuck their sorry asses... they sit around and collect tickets. They are the epitome of laziness. I hate piece of shit whining bitch people with crap jobs who think they should make money for nothing. Phew. There. I said it.

Oh and speaking of... how about those Philly Policemen who are too fucking busy to save lives? It's ok... I'm a teacher, so I care. I'll do your fucking job for you. Where's my raise?

Good for you. I've never directed traffic - but I have taken similar actions when I see something that needs doing.
OMG you're a teacher - that explains so much icon_surprised.gif

It's spilling over into Jersey too. It normally takes me 10 minutes to get down Rt. 70, over the Ben Franklin, and into work. Now it's taking me nearly an hour cuz the traffic is holding up the bridge. Is SEPTA close to settling? If not, I'll have to do PATCO, they don't strike.

And to add insult to injury, we lost the World Series. Philly is letting me down.

I applaud you for being an active citizen but you could very easily have been killed or severly hurt. You were trying to direct traffic in the middle of two intersecting, three lane, one way streets!!! Not even the Police will stand in the middle of the street cause that blocks the middle lanes path in both directions. And what the hell is wrong with the Police in Philly??? They should have forced both directions to stop at the cross walks, forcing traffic to treat it as a stop sign.

I don't see why an issue is being made of this. A traffic light was broken. A citizen called to report it. In a city of 1,500,000 you're "phailing" Philly for 40 minutes? I think you're being hyper sensitive to the issue. As for the police car ignoring the situation, you have no way of knowing what his priority call was or whether he called it in as well on his way to his/her original destination.

Hey Dan, I'm pretty sure teachers are paid better up here in Canada. Most of them make around 60k plus a year I think. Depending on how many degrees you have.
