Has anyone ever swam with an IGLA swim team? Just wondered what it is all about. I want to get more serious about swimming and would love to be on a team geared toward gays

I swim with Team Detroit Aquatics Tailfins. We've gone to two gay meets, one hosted by DC Aquatics Club and the other by Toronto Downtown Swim Club – both a blast. I also swam with the Phoenix Sunfish on vacation.

Our team has a mix of people and body types and a wider range of skill level than I've found on other Masters teams. I like our team a lot.

At the gay meets, the other teams are super-friendly.

Swimming is inexpensive, a great workout, and a great way to build community!

Maybe you can get a carpool going to Liquid Assets in Boston!

I am a swimmer and coach on WH2O. I love my team! Been a member for over 3 years now and I have made some of my best friends there. There is a wide range in skill level like most teams and Masters swimming in general is very open and positive to anyone interested in joining. Give it a try!

I completely agree. I've been swimming for the Atlanta Rainbow Trout for 2 years after a 25 year lay off. Everyone is great and supportive. USMS swimming in general is more of a social experience than college or high school. IGLA teams even more so.

By the way. The Trout are hosting a USMS meet December 5th, its SCM (Short Course Meters) Our practice pool is the site of the USMS SC Nationals, Y'all come on down!

It would be nice if Buffalo could support an IGLA swim team. I used to be a competitive swimmer in my mid 20s and it would be awesome to get back into the pool. Having an IGLA swim team would be a great incentive. But here in Buffalo it is the same old excuses, our depressed economy or our gay community's serious lack of interest or God only knows what else. Toronto, Canada is too far for me to travel for daily swim practice so that is out of the question. icon_sad.gif

Would love to try an igla team sometime. Sounds like a great way to meet new people and swim at the same time.
