Sick Day

I was teased and beat up a lot in school, so I needed a lot of "mental health" days. The problem was that I never got sick. I had to learn how to trick my mom into letting me stay home from hell.....I mean school. I learned how to rub the thermometer against my tongue to create friction and increase the temperature reading.
My specialty, though, was "fake vomit" - I would put some water, milk, cream of wheat and whatever else looked "urpish" into a jar and shake it up - then I would pour it onto and into the toilet - for that "actors studio" touch I would slug a bit and belt it into the bowl making a wretching sound "Bleeeecccchhhh!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!"
Elaborate I know - but actually fun...........
    Sick day scams anyone? icon_biggrin.gif

By the time I got to high school, I signed my own notes. At the beginning of every school year, they send you home with a form for your parents to fill out and sign. It was actually a way to get a copy of your parents' handwriting and signature. Knowing this, I filled it out and signed it myself.

So I would ditch school whenever I felt like it. And the following day, I would write my own note and sign it. They were never suspicious because the handwriting/signature on the note matched what they had on file. icon_lol.gif

My mother used to say that she was not going to send me to school when I said I was too sick to go because there were days that she knew she should have been home. So I never got any flack from her about that. LIttle did she know that those days I spent in bed playing sick were me needing to hide out for 24 hours or so and regroup..... for exactly the same reason you were talking about, jawrhead.

But then again, she probably did know....

I used to get really anxious in school, so I would just make myself actually vomit and go to the office with red face/eyes and a raspy voice. Never failed.

I could have written every word of this. I did this exact same thing! I even used her (my grandmother's) embossed stationery and envelopes in my little crime. Funny how I remember the attendance clerk taking my notes, and pulling the file - sizing up the handwriting - satisfying herself that my notes were "real" and giving me my hall pass (to get back into school after an absence) ........ which for me was usually a day of surfing at the beach. Hahahahaha.icon_cool.gif

    To whom it may concern,

Please excuse Gregory's absence from school yesterday. He was not at all well, and I thought it best that I keep him here at home with me. I felt this morning that he was much improved (possibly a twenty-four hour cold) so I am sending him back to school.

    Very truly yours,

    !!!!It worked every single time!!!!

My mom was a nurse too and never bought it, even if I wasn't feeling well...I had to be on my death bed to stay home from school LOL

Probably the reason I never get sick is the fact that it built up my immunity to damn near everything.

I was every parent's dream for a child.

Perfect attendance, grades, politeness to teachers, award winner, no life (coolness points for having parents with "study hours" at home... not icon_lol.gif lol) after 8pm on weekdays... etc...

It wasn't until high school when I started to forge my parent's signatures on everything.

The beach (+ starbucks) was 5 minutes by car (literally!) and I'd always skip my classes with friends. If I wanted to stay home because I didn't feel like going to school, my mother would let me (although, this would be once a month or so).

I would even call in as my father (BUT IN PORTUGUESE! LOL) and say that my child is sick. I think that the office only took what they wanted from that message: my name spelled out in english and my grade, lol.

Sorry about the bad school experiences. I had it pretty easy I guess. Small rural Central NY town so ya had to get along w/most folks. I was always big for my age through 9th grade too so I didn't get much grief and then everyone else caught up. My brother nearest my age was fiercely protective of me so that might have helped a ton too. Funny he never liked me much but stuck up for me anyways.
I did the exact same thing as xrichx did by 7th grade. My school never knew what my parents handwriting looked like. I went to school about 3 days a week on average through high school and doubled up to get out a year early.
From the start I hated going to school. I had a good thing going hanging out w/the dogs and playing all day and then kindergarten came up. My dad said I was pissed at my mom for that through 1st grade.
I ditched school to go fishing, hunting, skiing and swimming but got very good grades and had at least one job so no one had much of a bitch to lay on me.

I went to 13 different schools kindergarten through 12th grade.
I was picked on in high school when I started realizing I was gay. My mom let me take mental health days when I needed them, she knew without talking to me what I was going through.

I'd tell her I just couldn't go in and she would let me stay home. I got through it but never got over my hatred of school, it's a miracle I graduated college.

My mom signed the form for me to sign myself out of school. And I did.
