    Hey everyone -

What are some cool clubs/bars/etc - gay or otherwise (but especially gay) - to go to in NYC. I'm going to be there for the weekend and I'm clueless.

    Your responses are MUCH appreciated.

Well check out Christopher Street in the West Village it is lined with gay bars. Also 8th avenue between 14-24th is very gay friendly in Chelsea.

http://www.gaycenter.org is the LGBT center at West 13th street and they probably have stuff going on or certainly can direct you around NYC with resources for the LGBT traveler.

Gay Life in NYC is dispersed now, thanks to the high cost of real estate. Try Hell's Kitchen for more bars and clubs. I hear the Ritz is good. Also, Williamsburg has lots of restaurants, bars, clubs.
Brooklyn has is HOT too. I live in Brooklyn Heights!
It depends on what your idea of cool places is. There is something for everyone! restaurants, bars, clubs, parks, museums, plays, concerts, films, etc.

Welcome to NYC and Enjoy! hit me up if you need more tips.

I'm taking notes, lol. I'll be out there in Feb for a conference for five days. I get the impression that I might be skipping most of the conference and spending all of my time checking out the boys, icon_twisted.gif.

    hey guys,
a new yorker here who occasionally has been known to partake in the gay scene. Hell's Kitchen is a great area with about 4 or 5 gay bars. Therapy on 52nd, Barrage, and rigth around the corner from therapy on 51st is another one and its name escapes me.

An area that is cool to hang out in and brings a lot of diversity is the east village, which has a bidding gay scene. you get muscle boys, daddies, twinks, east village gay grunge in that area. Check out urge and the cock!

NYC boys are so fuckin hot. I had the best time of my life up there! Too bad I can't remember where the bars were at, I am sure that I was on Christopher St. in the village like hippie4lyfe said. I remember the name of one bar we went to, Luke and Leroys, but I heard they moved since I was there this past March. There was also a good bar called Gym's. Don't remember where it was but there was soooo many hot guys there. I didn't pay for a drink that whole night. icon_biggrin.gif

leaozinho thats so funny that you bring up the Ritz, for some reason it sticks in my mind as one of my favorite NYC gay spots. I was there maybe 6-8 months ago visiting a best friend of mine and the DJ had a copy of the new Britney Spears single that was leaked over the net like the day before. I just remember him playing the track and the entire bar went CRAZY.

I agree though, Hells Kitchen is definitely a fun place to hang out.

If you're looking for the largest New York style Italian (mostly red gravy) feast at a kinda reasonable buck, go to Carmine's either on the Upper West Side (Broadway at 98th or 99th or there abouts) or at the South Street Seaport, depending on your timing (lunch for South Street). Across from Carmine's Upper West is a place called Carne'. It's continental but kinda spectacular and the prices are surprisingly low. The food is very creative and the portions aren't nouvelle cuisine.

I could point out a few crack houses nearby, but, you are probably not interested in those, at least during this time of Jesus' birth.

I'm such a bad gay NY'r! I've stayed away from alot of the clubs b/c they're mostly young 20's w/plenty of bitchy attitude. The thing I cannot abide. But I haven't been to Ritz yet I hear it's fun. HATED Posh and THERAPY and haven't checked Barrage yet. I was actually just walking by Therapy one night and got punched in the face by 2 random str8 guys and the crowd outside didn't even bat an eye. I prefer neighborhood-y type gay bars unless Im w/a crowd or bunch.
Oh and McGay I found Carmine's to have great food but WAY overpriced..just my 2cents.....

Just pick up an HX mag or other free gay mag at any of the bars and it will have a list and map of all the bars and happenings. Have fun!

I left New York so long ago I'm sure the places I went to are probably gone...

there was an east village bar called Dick's where all the shaven-headed boys wearing little round spectacles, with copies of The Communist Manifesto tucked into their cargo pants would play pool...

my favorite was a place on Third Avenue in the high 20s called first South Dakota, then just Dakota. I lived on east 35th so it was kind of the neighborhood place to meet someone for a late night hookup...

I also remember Splash, Champs, and the Dugout...

I imagine these are all long gone.

I'm pretty sure I will be in NYC from December 26th thru New Year's Eve.

One of my favorite guilty pleasures was this place called "Rice To Riches" in SoHo...it's like the Baskin Robbins of Rice Pudding and amazing.

    Checkout their cool website here:

Sunday nights seem to be the new night for the young and fabulous in NYC. I hear Greenhouse, Flight 747 (at Kiss & Fly), 1 Oak, and Hiro are all super hot spots with super hot boys. As for other bars, can't go wrong with old reliables like G, Vlada, Posh, Urge, Dtox, the Cock, the Ritz, XES, View Bar, Stonewall, and Sugarland (in Brooklyn). icon_cool.gif

all of manhattan is gay....it's not just limited to a neighborhood anymore....I would check out one of the local bars in Chelsea...from there you can find one of the gay rag magazine such as NEXT that will give you a list of bars and clubs based upon interest.
have fun....manhattan is a great resource for gay fun...but be prepared to SPEND MONEY!
    ....be safe!
