God bless but you ain't 20.
Right now you want moral reinforcement for taking a stand as an individual. So here it is:
Don't let anyone define your life for you. It's only you that has the hand on the pencil. Don't let anyone tell you it's a pen. Don't let anyone tell you how to hold the pencil, or let anyone tell you your writing is too soft, or you have to write one thing or something else.
In the end, what you write with your life is what you write. People eternally have had a problem with others writing because people eternally can only understand their own. They have only known their own writing or writing similar to their own.
No matter how much they pretty up their conviction about who you are, as you get older you gain the wisdom that others' worldliness barely leaves their front step.
Don't let others talk down to you because they think they have a handle on what's "moral". Moral is about harm, and if all that's harmed is their comfort because of your spirit and your individuality, because of who you are as a Goddamn human being.... fuck 'em.
Those that care about this don't deserve your time or precious energies, and those that love you no matter what understand in the end, compassion is all that sets us apart from other species.
Shape who you are with your style of writing, no matter how much others pretend they know how to do it.
