ORIGINAL POST> This is why Americans are so badly dressed
    Jetsetter99 said
I feel compelled to start a new topic on this.. as the other one is getting too crowded with negative comments....so here goes..

    1) Fashionable clothes especially for Men in the US are not that easily available OR are awfully expensive and out of reach for most people. Here in Europe - high street fashions are very good value for money - everyone can AFFORD to dress up nicely... I've picked up fashionable clothes in Milan for 20-30 bucks... and they look like a million bucks.

I have flown to Italy and visited Milan and purchased GUCCI right from the store....just like I have here at FASHION SQUARE MALL in Scottsdale. I am well dressed for any Occasion

    2) American Body Types - are too many and too varied... with the vast mix of different kinds of people in the US - and different body types - its financially impossible for clothing companies to mass produce stylish clothes to fit the American body. "Big & Tall" is purely an American label catering to huge people. In Europe most Men have a similar body type - Lean and Tall... so there is more demand for fashionable fitted clothing here. This is why most Americans wear loose baggy clothes... which are made to fit one and all. I have a European body with broad shoulders and long Arms... 40chest, 29 waist... and American clothes hang on me like rags... they are either too big on the waist.. or too tall or too short on the sleeves.. and never fitted.

Don't be to fast to categorize all of us as to "varied"....in fact this is the very reason than most TOP designers flock to the USA to sell their designer clothes and fitted clotting at that. The styles are changing...slowly...but they are changing!!

    3) Designer clothes in Europe are also a lot more accessible and affordable for the middle class and even poor people... almost all europeans I know own some designer clothing.... there are outlets all over europe and anyone can afford to shop there.

I will admit that the formality of the old world and the country side, helps set the stage for designer clothing. I have also seen GUCCI hand bags and belts and other designer clothing sell at the "goodwill" for pennies on the dollar. I know any one here can afford them if they really WANT THEM!

    4) Homophobic attitudes in the US may also be responsible why American men do not like to dress up in tight clothing - in Europe str8 and gays all dress up in "fitted" clothes....

You may have a point here. I do think that detail magazine along with GQ is really trying to help educate the consumer. I am not sure if fashion is at the top of the list like football might be!!

    5) Lastly, lets face it - Muscled guys do not look good in well fitted fashionable clothing... the less clothes they wear the better they look. It takes a certain body type to carry out fashionable clothes - Lean and Defined looks far more attractive to me than Big and Muscley. Look at all the models - Americans or European.. they all have tall, lean and defined bodies.. and not huge muscled builds... I actually find that very very unattractive and unnatural... and imagine a musclehead in a fitted Italian suit... would look awful.

True, most overly bulked up body builder's would never look good in a fitted suit. However, I don't think they care. They are out for a sport and it's BODY BUILDING. Sometimes to much emphasis is placed on this and excess is not always the best in my view either. Some men seem to think that a true muscular body makes them more masculine.....well...not really!!

I think if your lean and muscular and in shape you can get into most clothing. Some designer clothes just do not look good on me...some do!

I can fit into anything really. When I meet European's they like how I dress and I like what they have on. Remember it's an individualistic thing. Clotting are a man.....they do not always make the man. If your fabulous in them and even more fabulous out of them...YOU HAVE WON!

    I WIN!

Apparently he can't stand the heat, so he removed the kitchen. Now if he'd just delete his profile and go away....Small loss, IMO.

Wow two days and three posts later, I still don't know who dresses better and neither do I care. An average American guy dressed in T-shirt and nice fitting jeans is always the best dressed and hottest for me. icon_razz.gif

If the guy deleted his thread probably he felt really uncomfortable with the reaction to his main idea and that probably means he wants to try to do it right next time. He already gave up, if he deleted his thread he is not gonna bother to reply to a "continuation" to his thread. That's why so many guys leave this site every now and then, they make a mistake, try to forget about it but others cant just move on...

    "Amazing what passes for fashion..."

Ninety nine percent of the clothing that is featured in magazines, is hideous beyond words, and begs the question, "Who would be caught dead in THAT ?" And, anyone wearing it, would most likely be pointed at and laughed at.

If your idea of fashion is being stuffed into a sausage casing that gives the impression that you either got caught in the rain, or you failed to properly follow the laundering instructions, then, knock yourself out.

If the word Gucci slapped upon any piece of clothing makes you feel fashionable, then keep right on deluding yourself, just like all the women who carry knock-off "name brand" purses made in China.

Clean, neat, and a comfortable fit will win out over ephemeral "fashion," every time.

Reading what he said just annoyed me. To me it seemed as if he was implying that you had to have the most expensive designer clothes to look good. I look just as good in a suit and tie, or white t-shirt jeans and my converse, as I do in my underwear! Who cares what everyone around you looks like. If you look good that's all that matters.

From what he has written I would say he has some issues.

What I found bizarre is his assumption that we needed his advice.

If as several posters have said- this is a re-incarnation, then his personality or his core beliefs have not changed.

He doesn't like Americans. He despises minorities especially blacks and Asians.

When Americans can't handle the TRUTH.. they just block you out.... who cares anyway... just google "tacky americans" and see what comes up... millions of articles & posts... then google "tacky europeans".. nothing comes up... the answer is there for you. If you guys don't care about fashion or style - then its your choice... we just have different priorities in this part of the world... here we believe more in a cultured, fulfilling life rather than just "hitting the gym" and having ugly bulging muscles to impress and get attention.... here we dress to impress... and talk to impress...we have nice decent bodies too which don't look like artifically infested plastic tubes popping out of all the wrong places.... oh and the true meaning of "JOCK" according to the free online dictionary means - an Athlete or a Sportsperson - but clearly on this site most of the so called "athlete's" are more interested in getting Bigger... and I just can't understand Gay America's obsession with SIZE (in body and dicks.. but not in brains).

    Merci!!!

As you get older, you'll start to realize that what makes a person classy isn't about the way they're dressed but instead it's mostly about the way they carry themselves. Classy people don't need to belittle anyone to put uplift themselves.

Obviously there is something not satisfying about Europe for you to be living in the United States. If we are so culturally iliterate, go back to Europe. Be happy instead of being miserable.

Do you notice, how people who claim not to like us, still can't seem to get enough of us?

Are these people bi-polar or something?
