....The movie in mentioning is "THE POUGHKEEPSIE TAPES", another "hyper reality" horror film in tone w/ other recent films such as "Paranormal Activity", "Cloverfield", "Diary of the Dead", "Blair Witch Project" ....

Except, this time, the "film" is the FOUND FOOTAGE of a Poughkeepsie, NY serial killer's activities - known as the "Water Street Butcher".

It was Directed by the Dowdle Brothers, & they are truly a new (directing) force to be reckoned with! THIS particular debut film of theirs is what gave the two Bros. the job for last year's horror movie QUARANTINE).

It's disturbing stuff....but here's a trailer nonetheless:

Yeah I was just there last month. I don't know how I feel about people making a movie out of this... it's a little too sadistic for me.

It's "NOT" real guys LOL Everything is 'staged' & those are actors. They are using their means of "low budget" to make it as realistic as possible & giving it a Documentary feel to it.

Though I understand....

Has this movie just come out? I remember hearing about this film like a year or two ago on another forum. And I think there was even a clip available.

that's just wrong... real or not, it's just not something anyone needs to see... and i'd be scared of copy cats.

and why do girls always fall down and start crawling on all fours when running away from someone with a knife? i'll never understand that...

Well ...

first off, I was just saying these guys are real good talent for their skills at eliciting realism into a otherwise stale sub-genre. They set up, edited & executed the film well. The whole movie is not just "ohhh let's glorify the violence of what serial killer's do..." (No, thats the SAW series) - However, it is intercut w/ footage from the "crime scene investigators", "victims families", "profilers", etc - its like some docu you'd see on COURT TV or I.D. Channel.

But I give props to the director for makin' a movie w/ BALLS & not scurrying away from the scary stuff a serial killer really does. None of this stupid "everythings explained & rationalized" or "rookie cop w/ horrible past on the trail of a killer to come to terms w/ problem past, etc" CRAP.

This movie does have blood & such, but alot of it is suggested too , as well as only heard (not seen). Other times, there is violence on the screen.

But yeah, I was just giving hats off to the two brothers who made this film & made it EFFECTIVE.

& as for that "COPYCAT" comment - *CUZ I REFUSE TO GET ON THIS SUBJECT* - but if someone is gonna do it, they're gonna do it. One film w/ this subject matter is not gonna make someone watch it & go "hmm, i'll think I'll go do that today" - theyre mind is ALREADY broken to begin with. Second, the idea of Serial killer's "videotaping" their deadly/violent exploits (aka Snuff filming) - has been done & will continue to be done by sick individuals UNFORTUNATELY. This idea has been explored in plenty OTHER hollywood films!

This is the best thing to happen to Poughkeepsie since it got a mention in the French Connection.

I think it's possible that one or two people might actually learn how to spell it as well!

The folks in Wappingers Falls are gonna be so jealous.
