I am so confused by people. I guess that's why they have to go to websites like okcupid to try and meet people. Seriously, this is one of the most retarded emails I've ever received, and the guy comes off as a blithering idiot. Not only does he insult me in his initial message (the only correspondence he's ever had with me), but he seems disappointed that I didn't jump on the opportunity to have sex with a stranger.

The Internet gives us access to more people than have ever been possible in history, more than when our daily human contact was limited to those within a few miles of our homes. This affords us advantages, and disadvantages.

You cite an example of a disadvantage. For myself, I filter them out, and cultivate the advantages of being in contact with people from all over the globe.

You ask what is wrong with people today. No more than has ever been wrong. Indeed, if you read Dickens from 150 years ago, you encounter all kinds of disturbed & neurotic personalities, undiagnosed & untreated in that earlier time.

Today what we experience is exposure, not a relative increase in people with problems. If anything, I think mental disturbances & disorders are less today than they once were. We merely have more contact with more people from more places, increasing the chances we encounter such unfortunate individuals.
