.....what would it be? I played piano for yrs as a kid and can barely do it now. If I could be a player now I'd pick the upright bass. Man I love watching those hot rockabilly guys killing that axe! I actually have a pal in aband that can pull it up on his shoulders and play it!!!!!! Now that's a feat! I wanna play that instrument but they're VERY expensive.
    What would u play?

Like you, Hellskitchen, I played piano for a good number of years as a kid, but can't play for crap now. I would actually like to pick that up again. I started teaching myself to play again a couple of years ago, but then got too busy to continue on with it. I find playing piano to be wonderfully relaxing, and I think it's one of the more beautiful instruments.

I've been playing piano for a long time. I started at age 4, studied classical piano until I was 19. When I was 16 (but looked older) I started playing piano in cocktail lounges, which is how I paid for college. Via the tip jar. After college I played in cocktail lounges, and then in Virginia I was the pianist for a cabaret act that played clubs and private parties.
Now that I'm in Florida I don't play professionally anymore, just for my own amusement.

It would be the piano. I took lessons, for a semester in college. I just couldn't coordinate my hands to keep up with the rate that I read the music; or was it the other way around. Either way, it progress too well and I stopped. Still, I fully appreciate one that can play and play well; whether it is piano, violin, cello, or brass.

Oboe or Bassoon. I love the melancholy sounds that come from those reed instruments.

I played saxophone, but I love brass. My dream would have been to be part of a drum and bugle corp! That music rocks!

Okay, I play hammered dulcimer, mountain dulcimer, 'ukulele, guitar, autoharp, recorders, whistles, flutes, clarinet, and smatterings of other things. I'd really like to be able to play piano, accordion, concertina, fiddle, mandolin, harp, upright bass, and I'm sure there are others I've forgotten about.

The theatre is always needing pianists - I could make a killing! Unfortunately, I'm all thumbs.

Most of the people in my family's older generations played some sort of instrument as evening entertainment. Just one more thing that the television killed off, I think.

I used to play woodwinds, but it sort of faded away after I started grad school and leisure time disappeared. Sometimes I can play a piece of music (that I learned long ago) if and only if I don't think about it.

A couple of times, I started to learn to play keyboards. However, along the way, the nerves that control my right thumb died off and I can't really use it any more. Strangely enough, that's the only finger that you don't really need to play woodwinds... hmm...

haha mindgarden that's funny! i used to have pretty epic callous on my right thumb from where my woodwinds rested on it. but college has eaten up most of my time, so i don't play as much...kinda sad actually...

If things go as I'd like I'll be getting guitar lessons as a Christmas present. So yeah I'd like to learn guitar.
Beyond that I've always liked the way flutes and harps sound. In fact if the idiot of a band teacher I almost had in 6th grade hadn't been so focused on his idea of gender specific instruments I would have learned to play the flute a long time ago. But it was the opinion of that backwater bigoted idiot that the flute was a girl's instrument and wouldn't let me join the band unless I picked something more manly. Stupid fucker.
