The sweetest revenge to those that voted away your civil rights to prove to themselves that you are a lesser human being than they are is to live a full life that is healthy, honest, compassionate, less dysfunctional, and more loving.

actually i think it's probably to move to a state that does provide equality, thus depriving the state you leave behind of the wealth that is YOU (your taxes, your income, your creativity, your soul, etc.)

you don't want happy fags in your your state? fine. we'll go somewhere else, and i hope all the walmart personalities you are left with will make your life seem better. meanwhile, the places with large gay populations continue to be the best educated, the healthiest, the most diverse, the most wealthy, the most beautiful, and the the most envied. so MNAH!

Yeah, DancerJack hit the nail on the head. I agree that living good is the best revenge, but everyone else has the rights to live better than good. We should go somewhere else if our state can't give us that. Just leave; wow, what a concept and I'll have to tell em all off in my head, kinda like this.

That's what my partner and I did. When Idaho passed it's constitutional amendment banning any relationship other than marriage, we packed up and moved across the river to Washington. And we're really glad we did.

Both my partner and I were lifelong Idaho residents, and were quite politically active, but we decided to adopt and needed to do what was best for our family.

    So, Washington, here we are!

I disagree. It's high time more of us act up! I'm the type of guy who thinks the Mother Theresa approach only helps to reinforce the stereotype that most gays are complacent, gentle and quiet.

You need to fight fire with fire.

I can maintain my healthy lifestyle, and I can continue to be honest with folks, but I'm not going to be compassionate, less dysfunctional and more loving towards those who would rather see me burned at the stake than to give me and my partner equal rights under the law.

If you want to be a pussy, fine, but I refuse to be quiet, and I refuse to let people trample all over my rights.

sorry....what civil rights were those? And what technically qualifies as a civil right? I cannot debate terms that are ambiguous. Cite the Constitution? Bill of Rights? I know I feel deprived as hell. Just not sure why.

    I'm hearing what you're saying...

But that said i'd still rather, snot one into their coffee or rub a muffin round a toilet rim and offer it to them

I'm all about instant gratification though so your method might work better in the long run

OK, then let Us NOT sit back and be compliant and quiet since We, as taxpayers, are not allowed the same rights as the breeders have due to the RWcN (Right Wing christian Nazi) in this country.
    Is that better for you?!!

My Gay Brothers bore me because they talk and talk and talk and then they pat each other on the back for talking. Then they give each other an award handed out by Chastity Bono for talking. Then they make a speech about doing something and then we give them an award for that. Then we all get fired up because the latest Gay actor comes out and suddenly he is our spokesperson and we give him an award for that. And each new out celebrity is going to fight. Fight for us. Fight not to lose their paychecks.

And, really, What has changed? Gay marriage? Gay rights? Obama ending Boma or ENDA or Gays in anything? No. Another decade of giving money for a political circle jerk. We donate to causes that hold big DC fundraiser dinners to pay love to Ellen and Portia and whoever and what does the gay kid in Montana get from all this? The gay kid in Atlanta? In Oakland? Nada. Nothing.

    MuscleQuest...Keith...

I have no problem with you, it is the banality of what gays ask for. Civil rights? I can vote. So can you. What does that mean? What civil rights and show me (and thus them) what civil rights we do not have.

Otherwise, it just becomes a circle jerk. That argument is so boring if not stupid.

Have you ever talked to cool straight people that really want to support you? That would agree but have no idea what civil rights you do not have? Do you ever talk to non gay people?

Can you state your argument in two sentences? Not to argue, but do it!

Boring and stupid?!? You sound like a RWcN right there. What I said was,
"We, as taxpayers, are not allowed the same rights as the breeders have due to the RWcN (Right Wing christian Nazi) in this country. "
You think that is boring and stupid?!!! icon_eek.gif
Listen I pay more taxes then most. I want, no demand, that I get the same as everyone else! You should demand it too!
Of course I speak to "cool non Gay people." Most of my friends are "cool non Gay people." (simply because of where I live) They do not understand how We are denied THE RIGHTS that they have. Why We can't get married. Why We are not recognised by the gov't that Our tax dollars support, as being worthy of receiving the same tax benefits as they do. Why We are not protected under hate crimes when some of Us are attacked because We are Gay
I'm out to everyone, I work to further Our rights and causes. I protest. I work for candidates who are sympathetic to Our issues. What do you do?

    As all through our history
Civil Rights can never be passed through the voting booth
    it's counter intuitive
When there is a lack of civil rights it's the majority denying rights to a minority
so how the hell can we get rights passed in this way
It's going to have to come via the judicial system
just like the suffrage movement did
just like rights for blacks and racial minorities did

This is also why we cannot as gay men and women ever let a republican gain the White House because we get dolts like Thomas and Scalia
who would never see a civil right even if it was shoved up their collective asses

But we as citizens need to exercise our rights as well
If a state or a municipality is denying us what we as citizens deserve we have to deny them * money in the form of taxes ... move out of that area
    * do not vacation there
    * make it KNOWN that they are denying you your rights
    write your congressman
tell your family and friends that you will not step foot there and why

    McQuest-

The last time I looked the powers that be are all Democratically controlled with the exception of the Supreme Court.

If all you say is true, why are you blaming Right Wing Christian whatever? Your entire argument died with the election of Obama and the majority in the house and the senate for Democrats? Why still blame Right Wing whatever?

That is what I am saying. Left Wing whatever will not vote or do anything for gays. They haven't and they won't. Or maybe they will. When I am an old man. Where is the outrage against the power in control? Right Wing bla bla bla. They do not control anything anymore. And still, what has changed? What has the Liberal Majority done for us gays?

So blaming Right Wing Christian whatever seems like a 2002 argument. The left hates us as much as the right. But they will take our votes and our money. And I am an atheist. I have my own bone to pick with Christians that control us. But leave that for another thread.

    GQ Jock-

I could not agree with you more.

Social pressure is very important. Economic pressure even more so. What would Gays boycott today? A consumer item? A city? A state?
