I used to have a lovely piano sheet music version of "Lies of Handsome Men" by Francesca Blumenthal shortly after she wrote it. As soon as I heard the lyrics I knew it was written for gay men, and I used to play & sing it often at the keyboard.

Interesting note: one of the montage photos is from the movie "Touch of Pink." Francesca Blumenthal worked on Musical Production for that movie, though not credited. I wonder if the person who created that YouTube clip knew that?

Red Vespa lost me on all the details but I got his message.

All we are saying is give peace a chance.......

All for it. Up with love. Down with hate.

Ummmm... I think it's being ironic, that if you can believe in other fantasies, then you'll believe the lies of men just because they're handsome. Certainly a lesson I was learning while I was coming out, and why this song struck a chord with me (pun intended), why I played & sang it myself. The lyrics, that I think are absolutely wonderful:

    I believe in star signs
and I believe in film romances
    I believe in fantasy
and I believe with just one glance he's crazy for my eyes
'cause I believe the lies of handsome men

    I believe in witchcraft
    and I believe in Cinderella
    I believe in gypsies
and I believe I cast a spell that sends him to the skies
'cause I believe the lies of handsome men

Somewhere in the corner of my mind
I'm not a fool, completely blind
But even though he's hooked me on his line
I find the pleasures been mine

    I believe in love songs,
they seem to know just what I'm feeling
    I believe in Prince Charming
I never guess he's double dealing
    How my spirits rise
Believing in the lies of handsome men

Sometimes in a dark and quiet place
the truth and I meet face to face
And even if his highness disappears
    I keep some sterling souvenirs

    So, I believe in heroes
and I expect that happy ending
    wishing on some rainbow
    I pretend he's not pretending

    Someday I'll get wise
but right now I need the lies of handsome men

I believe in not quoting me unless it is relevant. WFT? Does anyone believe in original thought? Even slightly? Do you have to quote me to make your silly statement relevant? "Triggerman says..." Your ideas should stand on their own. If not, quote me and I will heckle you and have fun doing it. Ya just make it so easy.

What ARE you on? I really think you need to chill out yourself, per the title of this thread. We all quote each other, it's a button on every post here. I offered a different interpretation of that song than you did. To make sense to other readers, I quoted you. That's SOP here, my dear fellow. Get with the program, OK? icon_confused.gif

I suppose. And I suppose I shouldn't have taken the bait of such irrationality. Blame it on my reflexive military response syndrome.

Anyway, aren't those lyrics marvelous? I had never encountered the situation it portrays with a woman, when I was in denial, trying to be straight. I was never the victim of a man's lies until I came out gay, soon after I first encountered this song. It and other song lyrics were as helpful to me as any "Joy of Gay Sex" books ever were.

I agree Celtic... We as a society are so "knee jerk" oriented so much anymore. We're all human. We all make mistakes. Once or twice, small things should be forgiven. I thought someone quoting me was a compliment. Not a put down... Well maybe if your quoting southbeach... Just kidding SB. There are many different views among "our kind". So many good ideas how to help society move forward. So many want to tell us how to live our lives and how their beliefs are the correct ones. What a fuckin mess the world is in, eh?

I just watched this morning the "The Bible tells me so" documentary. It was great, and really underlined the very negative and also positive role that religious groups can play. but there is already a thread for that....

Had seen, "The Bible tells me so" about a year ago. It was an eye opener.
I really approach politics and religion differently. I know what I'm comfortable in believing regarding my religoius focus. If someone tells me I'm wrong, "back the fuck off"... I'm not telling you what to believe, don't you dare tell me.

So most of the religous threads, I just bypass.

No one can win an argument in religious beliefs. This is my response to it.

Um, Trigger...I do think quoting someone is very good idea on here. That way we all know what the line of thought is without having to scroll back up to see if we missed anything.
    Besides..I just quoted you. LOLicon_lol.gif

Ya know I think there are a few of us on here that may not agree w/the triggerdude. That does not mean that he's not allowed to give his feelings. Even in the "chill out thread"... Oh yea, for you joeyveras...... BEAUTIFUL PICTS BUDDY... There are sooooooo many lovely and serene places in the world. There is this place on Okinawa where the japanese army marched hundreds of the local okinawan's off the cliffs when the Americans where about to land that has a very mystical and ethereal quality about it. Just walking around seems to make everyone cry. I LOVE it there....
