Its always interesting when someone says, "Yeah you look like a Chris" or
"Absolutely your a Christopher" (even professionally). Even I fall into the trap. This morning a kid at the convenience store who's always playing tricks on me.... "yep he looks like a Tyson".

What the heck does that mean? Preconceptions of a name?
So do you think you look like your first name?

I realize some here don't want to use their first names for personal reasons, for those, you can say yea or nea.

I don't know that I look like my name (Mike). I've been called Matt and Scott before. But also: Hey, Dude, Yo, Jerk and so on. I respond to most except Mikey. Sadly, that's what a lot of people do try to call me. Also I rarely go by Michael. My parents call me Mike. Michael was my "I'm in trouble" name.

Chris I'd say you look like a handsome Kansan icon_biggrin.gif

I think I look like a "Bill" but I've never gotten the "you look like a Bill" before. I have gotten "you look more like a William. I'm going to call you William.".

Jim, Jeff, Joe.....these three names keep popping up into my dating pool. I've only really have had a couple "Jeff"s as my LTRs. Yoseffs are now popping into the mix.

Before I get flamed, let me just say I don't plan this out at all, it just happens this way with the "J" names.....maybe it's a rut I need to try to get out of...

I've commented before about this to friends over the years, that I must look like a "Tom" because that's the default used whenever someone forgets my actual name. It's like over 90% of the time, just spooky. Never Mike, or Bill, or Jeff, but they always call me Tom. So sometimes I just call myself Tom, and that makes everybody happier and less likely to get my name wrong.

I'm going to guess it's association with others who have the same or similar names.

Jim is such a common name that it's rare to meet people (in the US) who don't know at least one.

I love it when you meet someone, introduce yourself and they feel compelled to share with you that they hate the name Jim because their uncle/ex-boss/ex-boyfriend/ex-husband/neighbor was named Jim and he was a bastard. Nice ice-breaker, there. What are you supposed to say to that? "Let me kiss my way up your ass and see if I can change your opinion?"

I think in the future I'll just say, "He probably saw what kind of social skills you have."

Hmm...never really thought about it much. I'm not sure how you look or don't look like a Zach. The most frequent wrong name I get is Matt, which is funny because it was my parents' second choice name for me. I also get a bunch of Drews around here, but I can see how that happens.

    I've been told the same.

Even by a really cute emergency room doctor on Friday! Too bad the morphine had already kicked in, otherwise I would have hit on him.

    Well Chris,

Maybe when you meet someone you should go up to them and say "Hey.....take a wild guess what my name is!"

it would be interesting to see what they say.

I would have pegged you as "Rocko".... icon_smile.gif
