I am a professional sports photographer but have never been involved in the sport of body building.

I'm just wondering if bodybuilders have an interst in having photo shoots while they pose. I'm not talking a porn shoot. Hey I'm gay, I'm a man and I think it would be fun to have well muscled men come into the studio for some shots. I'm just not sure if this is something bodybuilders would want. I know photos are taken at the events but this would be something more personal.

It's would be something different than what I specialize in the rest of the time.

Tell me what you think? Thanks.

Simply put, yes - I think most competitors would enjoy having their condition documented. Event photographers have to take shots on the fly, and they are rarely that well lit or composed.

We've worked with professional photographers for physique shots on two occasions - both fairly close to contests.

I'm not sure how much of a bodybuilding community there is up your way - California is a more target-rich environment....

Let me add that most promoters won't just let you walk into an event and start shooting. You'll need some form of access agreement, almost certainly.

Like just about everything else in bodybuilding, you'll need to develop a plan, well in advance, and execute it.

Threads have a way of morphing from the original post. Thanks for the input. I am not looking to shoot the events. I was simply wondering if bodybuilders would be interested in having a photo shoot done of themselves. I make a good living in the specialty that I'm in, this would just be something to do on the side in my studio for my own enjoyment.

No one would pay you for it. Most are used to getting paid. Going rate is $100.00 / hr for a gym shoot, and more for on-location.

The Chucklet, as usual, is talking through his jockstrap. You can, indeed, be paid for it.

I know photographers who do quite well with physique photography. The going rate seems to range from $100 per setup to $150/hr or more depending on experience and quality.

I never said anything about getting paid. I think it would just be fun to shoot good looking muscled guys.

That's what they charge. No one was going to pay you. Re-read the post.

I just don't think we are connecting here between our thoughts. I'm not talking about professional bodybuilders here. I live in rural Michigan and I'm talking about guys that work out at the local gyms and participate in local events. They are proud of their bodies and maybe want a free shoot in order to show them off. I hope that explains it a bit more.
