Though I just hated his AMA performance because he didn't take advantage of his great voice, I am really happy he is bringing up the Double Standard when it comes to criticism of him. Who is talking about all of the crotch grabbing and sexually flaunting done by Janet, Rihanna, etc, etc?

What double standard? Madonna built her career by doing stuff like this for the controversy factor. They've all been criticized for doing stuff like that.

That's cuz it's the standard now. " No talent ?" Exploit your sexuality and claim that your "owning" it. All the while pandering to every st8 and even some gay guys fantasy." *YAWN* When will REAL talent return ?

Yeah, when I watching the show I was thinking, such elaborate productions to conceal their inability to just sing a good song.

I love his performance at AMA. Take that you homophobes. LOL ....especially when he sings, "Can you handle what I'm about to do..." and he kissed the pianist, meaning he doesn't care about all you homophobes. He just accepted himself for who he is.

His counter critique might be more effective if his performance weren't complete garbage. His vocals were a mess, the staging was too frenetic, the song is awful, the faux fellatio and gay kiss fell flat within the ridiculously cheesy context of the performance...and he fell mid song, a la J Lo.

(I was watching the AMAs with friends...one of whom kept insisting that no one must have shown up for rehearsals.)

And no one really did anything provocative before him. Lady Gaga came across as camp theatre, nothing as saucy as the Bad Romance video. Rhianna was just dull. Janet played it safe as an elf working for UPS.

His performance was a mess it was all over the place and he amazing vocals and last night he just appeared to be screaming.

There have been other artist who have bee just as done the same thing but they were able to pull it off. Prince is one artist that comes in to mind.

When Michael proformed "Dangerous" and "Smoothe Criminal" at the AMA's quite sometime ago there was a lot of grabing in that area but the performance was on point!

This is the same man who said that he did not want to be perceived as the "poster child' for gays. Well that's what he's doing.

There is no double standard here it's was just an over the top sexually explicit performance there was nothing tasteful about it at all. It just all seemed rather forced and theatrical.

Janet, Prince & Madonna breathe sensuality and sexuallity when they perform, they have a sense of who they are. Adam Lambert has not tapped into that yet.

He claims that he was making a statement about his gayness well it got lost in all of confusion the hedonistic performance that he attempted to put on.

If that is how he want to be perceived than ride the wave.

It's wonderful that he accepts himself. It is great to see another young gay man being himself in the public eye and refusing to take shit for it. Gays have remained under the cover of tolerance for too long. I think it is time that someone stands up and says that it doesn't really matter what others think.

However, none of that gives him an excuse to make my ears bleed. Adam Lambert is a terrible dancer, an awful singer, and I hate that he is seen as what a gay man is by so many other people. I'm sure he loves being a stereotype and being in the public eye, but I cannot listen to his wannabe-diva screeching.

I personally dont think that is being himself. I think that is trying to get attention. he has such a good voice and it was a shame to see him throw it away with that performance.

The article is right in that he does poop on a double-standard that we can allow the rampant sex to go around from females, but not from males.

Other than that he is Adam and it was bad.

What a load of crap. The guys performance was brutal. Adam's performance was disgusting and just another set-back for how your average citizen views homosexual males.

"Over the Top" doesnt describe it. As part of a prime-time performance it was beyond pushing limits. As stated earlier this type of thing has been done before, but this rings as desperate ? Not sure of the word to describe. Madonna was shocking, MJ was a continuation of Elvis' crotch thrust, women have danced provocatively for centuries. So comparing the two is apples to oranges.

This will be more damaging than "boundary" pushing. I am sure, "filthy fag" was uttered millions of times.

    I hated his performance.

And if the thought was "girls grab their crotches why can't I?" that is pathetic.

His "handlers" should be ashamed of themselves.

Can you imagine how powerful his debut performance would have been if he just sang a great song, with little theatrics, and minimal instrumentation?

What an impact he could have had. He is so talented.

In my humble opinion, he blew it.

Though he will play great in Vegas....

Agree , it may b double standard but none of it should b permited. Shock for the sack of shock is not entertainment! It's just publicity getting. It all should b edited. Regardless if it's str8, gay or male or female. It's nothing more then just trying to make the newscast and "E" for publicity purposes.

While we're talking about double standards, how about this one: why the hell does everybody say Kelly and Janet need to lose weight, but Chubs McGlambert gets a free pass on that one. If he really wants to represent 'his community' doesn't he need to drop fifty pounds? Huh?

    Really, inquiring minds wanna know.

So this morning my sister-in-law complained about his performance and compared the double standard to Carrie Prejean!!! I had to inform her of Prejean's little lie concerning her age in her sex tape. I pointed out that the difference between her and him is that one is a lying hypocrite and the other is at least honest about himself....

After responding to her facebook post, I looked up Lambert's performance on the internet and of course it was readily available. I thought it was awful...the song and the dance....Perhaps too provocative, but then I realized that this has been going on since Elvis' hip sway movements on live television.

If Madonna can french Britney, then Adam Lambert has every right to bury a backup dancer's face in his crotch. It doesn't make it any less tasteless, though.

Duh....because they're women, and as we all know women are commonly portrayed in the media as sluts and whores(not saying it's right, it's just true).

But then somehow, I highly doubt Adam Lambert is making a taking up a feminist crusade.

I also am a firm believer in just because you can do something....doesn't mean it's appropriate and you should.

That was just a cheesy and sad attempt really. I don't know if I'll ever get my hearing back after listening to it. That dude owes me a new window because his horrible voice broke it.

So he's openly gay and proud of it and apparently is comfortable with himself and accepts it. Kudos to him. As long as he's fine with himself then the battle is pretty much won. Trying to convince others that you are fine and then they should be fine is another story and giving a downright bad performance doesn't make it any better.

what fight? an openly gay man almost won American Idol, and better yet, he's a hell a lot more popular than the actual winner. he didn't need to lock lips with another man on stage. For once let's leave sexuality out of music. He was the best chance to do that, and show gay people in a better light, but he screwed up.

So it wasn't just me then? I swear, as I was away from the TV in another room when he was on, that I thought it was Tina Turner singing. So I backed the TiVo up....and imagine my surprise! (Not that Tina ever sounded that bad) But what was he trying to do? icon_question.gif

I think he has an awesome voice and didn't need the over sex theatrics. Maybe it'll be better for him to perform like that as he builds more momentum.

    Agreed.

Adam is awesome. His voice is incredible. Most of his album sucks pretty bad. His crazy outfits aren't really creative as they all have been done before. He always talks about how much he admires Bowie, the why doesn't he do something interesting and unique instead of all the same crap as the boring trashy female stars. He has so much potential it's sad to see him squander it.

For example... this song, while tame and safe, makes me giddy like a little boy. His vocals make my spine shiver. I wish he would do something powerful instead of all this overly aggressive out there stuff... and no I don't mean less gay. He can camp it up all he wants I'm all for that. There is such a thing as tastefull camp.
