You read to much into it. Extend your hand and introduce yourself. Same as if you were at a social gathering - it's the only way to further your 1st impression of the person and at the same time make your first impression. If there turns out to be some common thread between the two, great. If not at least you met someone new and move on....

You can't fall in love with pixels on a computer screen. You have to meet the guy in the actual 3-dimensional world. Only then can you determine (1) does he really exist as portrayed and (2) is there any spark of compatibility.

Otherwise it's like falling in love with a character in a movie.

Dude, it's the internet. Don't take it so seriously. If you meet him in person, then you can start to fret over him.

guys, i'd have to say that i experienced it too. though in my opinion it could never be love you're feeling, it's a feeling of (intense) attraction. and that could really excist, right?

P.S. By attraction i don't mean just physical. if the guy has the same humor, body language, or interests, passion, or just something you incredibly like, that's attraction too!

Claming up is the worst you can do. If you are interested, say hi and make small talk. It's the same as if you were in person, you need to make conversation if you think there is some idea of a relationship possibility.

However, don't let it just be an online thing. To truly know if something is real you must meet in person.

I have to say such a thing has never happened to me yet anywhere on the net. I will concede there are a few people here who have a place in my heart, and only a few. Yet love, now thats another story, and I'm not sure it's possible, for me; but then I'm not looking either.

Internet forums are a way to meet interesting people, but they aren't the same as real life. If you're really interested in someone from a forum, then the next step is the same as in real life. You have to get to know them and spend time with them.

I'm new to this forum, but I've been on a different one for about 10 years. I've gotten to know the people there well, even to the point of sharing some personal information. However none of them are to the level of my real life friends.

I'll just add that I've never met anyone from any forum I post to. That's fine. I come to forums for entertainment. I joke a little, debate topics, learn new things, and occasionally educate people. Sometimes I look for advice and sometimes I give it.

No matter how open and honest people are about themselves online, there are many things they are unaware of about themselves that you just don't discover online.
